I guess this keeps Malinski in the AHL another year.

Knowing the Avs it's more likely the defense gets so injured Malinski has to play so much he gets injured himself.

avs are pretty generous with letting their defense play offense. if he doesn't have a carrer year in colorado he's probably not going to be an nhl regular in the future.

Before acquiring Brannstrom the Avs defense depth was: Makar, Toews, Manson, Girard, De Haan, Malinski, Rosen, MacDonald. And that's still leaving blue chip Sean Behrens in the AHL.

Clearly they didn't make this move simply because they needed another body. If anything that money would have been better spent on a 4C. Avs must really like Brannstrom.

This person is an Islanders fan, I don't think they have any idea what a winning hockey team looks like. I'm nearing 40 and I wasn't even around to see the last time the Islanders did anything significant.

Every player past Girard there isn't good. So yes the Av's wanted another NHL defence for depth. Brannstrom and De haan will form a below average bottom pair and the rest of those guys are crappy injury call ups.

That's what I think. I have no tangible desires one way or the other for Erik Brannstrom's career.

Brannstrom is a bargain at 900k. He's pretty decent defensively despite his lack of size. His zone exits are strong and he's fearless. I can understand the Senators not qualifying him at 2 million when he can be replaced by the very large Tyler Kleven on an entry level contract. I hope he does well in Colorado. I liked him.
