Confirmed with Link: [Col/Chi/Car] Rantanen (50% by Chicago), Hall, Nils Juntorp to Car - Drury, Necas, 2nd, 4th to Avs, 3rd round pick to Chicago

This years team, while still good, has a few too many shortcomings to be viewed as a proper challenger, and I think the trade off of Necas and Drury for Rantanen and Hall doesn’t exactly address any of those shortcomings. Part of the reason i’m so extension or bust regarding this trade is that the combo of KK 2C, Burns 1RD, downgrade at 4C, inconsistent goaltending is just too high a mountain to climb.

I think also you have to look at the trade viewing who will be available in UFA this summer. I agree that this year’s team hasn’t shown the consistency of past Canes’ contenders.

Without Rantanen or Marner, the 2025 UFA class is very underwhelming. By acquiring Rantanen now, the Canes’ front office has a 5 month head start on keeping him. Knowing they’d have soooo much cap space and likely no real worthwhile UFAs to spend it on, I suppose it makes sense to jump the gun on the best one available.

I think the points will start coming for Rantanen eventually. But this trade also makes me regret that we let Guentzel go even more.

Guentzel somehow was a perfect fit for this team. Aho looked on another level with Guentzel on his wing. Guentzel also elevated Jarvis’s play.

Rantanen has looked dangerous, and I do think is snake bitten. But for whatever reason his play so far hasn’t elevated Aho’s play like Guentzel did.

We’ve watched Aho & Svech struggle for years to find chemistry. Part of me thinks Aho’s game just doesn’t translate well with power forwards like Rantanen & Svech. I wonder if Aho would benefit more from a playmaker / shifty winger like Marner?
While good. Rantanen hasn’t been a play driver on the Avs for 2+ years. He relied on Mack, Landy and Lehky to do the heavy lifting on puck retrievals and zone entries.

His skating for whatever reason dropped off 2 years ago. Ismo (Lehkys dad called him out). He’s constantly on the ice and takes awful offensive zone penalties.

I love Rants, but he needs a pretty specific set up it seems to work well in a system. Hoping he can adapt! Hopefully he gets off some backhanders for y’all. He’s got the best one.

Some take this poster's info as gospel.

I'm on the fence. The cap is going up a lot but Mikko hasn't looked like a 10m player in a Canes jersey yet.

I know chemistry always occurs differently at different rates but I'd be lying if I said I'm not disappointed in Mikkos production and our continued pp woes.

At this point we need to see his ceiling on the Canes if we want to meet his huge ask. Imo we should go Svech - Aho - Rantanen and feed them 22 mins a night and see if they can get going. No harm in stacking the top 9 and this was supposed to be a step back year. Let's see what we have in Svech and Rantanen. Those minutes and linemates will also inform if Svech has any development left or he is what he is.

Avs fan coming in peace.

Are the Canes actually utilizing Rantanen to quarterback the PP alongside Burns? Or is DailyFaceoff out or lunch on that?

Not to say that he doesn’t belong there, but I can’t think of a time he was utilized in that capacity in Colorado. He was more likely to take a shot from behind the net than from the point.
From memory he's spent most of his time below the goal line trying to power to the net or feed the bumper.

The results haven't been great. But part of it is Jarvis or Aho are usually the bumper man and are stationary or outmuscled by bigger dmen and have a hard time getting off good shots.

For context January was the worst pp stretch in pp history but Rantanen hasn't appeared to be of any help. If anything we miss Necas entry and play on the left half wall. He was also the only player we had with a one timer threat.

It's not a good start, but I'm still willing to give it time. I think both have played better than their stats but right now the whole team and PP just aren't meshing and the whole having the plague issue for several days. But that's part of the reason to get them in so early and work that stuff out. I imagine this isn't the final look for the team, so we'll see where it lands. Still think we get in easily enough and that gives us a chance. I'm less concerned about now and how they come together in the spring.

Tbh so far Guentzel was the more dangerous player for the Canes and I would've rather had him long term at 9m than Rantanen at 12+.

That ship has sailed so I'm hoping they can figure it out.

The team has a big problem if 1D is Burns who is not as good as he used to be. The team needs more.
Sadly not many teams have a Makar or Hughes but we do have a Russian Pronger 😉

To me the issue is getting these lines correct (Maybe Aho and him could even be on different lines who knows. When Nachos was on a heater he was on the Koko line); and time.

I’m glad we traded for him early so we can work it out.

I definitely am not on the Canes are Worse with Mikko team— that seems absurd to me.

This is on time, chemistry, and coaching to me.

Definitely don’t like reactionaries losing their heads about this so quickly, especially with the bug ravaging the team and all the traveling and lack of settling for a guy coming into a situation that is notorious for taking some time to adjust to.

If things look just as bad and broken multiple games after the international break, we can talk then.

Recency bias is a bitch.

The team is spending to the cap, they've got a coach that players will run through a wall for, and they've got a GM that brings in great players over and over without damaging the excellent pipeline. Jackson Blake was a fourth round pick and he was getting top line minutes at 21 years old, and the last two teams that they just lost to, on the road, while recovering from the flu, are both legit cup containers.

Sports is nothing but a weighted random number generator. Good teams lose. To get this upset over regular season losses, especially given the circumstances, is just... I don't know what it is.

Take a breath. Touch grass. This is literally the longest stretch of prolonged success this franchise has ever seen, by a wide margin, and protects to continue to be successful.

Damn, y'all.
