Col:
Varlamov
Gelinas
4th

Car:
Slavin
Lack

Edit: I didn't realize Slavin has developed to the point where he has. Gelinas, Lack and the pick are just there as short term replacements. I just felt with Car having a handful of good young Dmen and weak goaltending there would be a fit as the Avs need a 2nd pairing Dman to play with Barrie. I truly didn't mean to make a lopsided deal, my impression of where Slavin was at was just off. Thank you all for your replies.

Oh my god...I am sorry, Canes fans.

Meeqs, Slavin is 22 year old top pairing shut down defensman, and currently the best, if not the most valuable, defender on the Hurricanes.

I value Slavin at a MacKinnon level. Not joking. I'd trade Hanifin and Faulk long before I'd move Slavin. He's a monster.

I'd probably be happy with McKeown + Lack/Ward + mid pick for Varlamov at this point.

If Ward can keep his play up, big IF, I'm fine with waiting till Booth or Needaspellcheck is ready. As other cane fans have mentioned, Hanifin for Mackinnon seem like a nice deal or may be Faulk for Duchene.

Probably in the Top 5 worst trades I've seen on these boards.

Apologies to Canes fans.

No worries. This isn't even top five worst proposal involving the Hurricanes. There are years of EStaal to Toronto for table scraps. And now that he's gone Skinner is taking up the mantel. You learn to just laugh at them after a while.

Faulk for Gardiner was worse (Gardiner was in the AHL at the time but supposedly had "Hall of Fame" potential)

Skinner for everybody's 3rd line reject

Estaalo for all kinds of trash

one of my faves from a couple years back was EStaal/Faulk/Semin/Skinner for Kessel and a handful of 2nd and 3rd round picks. Brutal

Ya, I'm assuming OP just isn't too familar with Slavin. Understandable given that he has kind of came out of nowhere over the last two years.

Still, it's my opinion that if you're going to make a trade proposal you've gotta do your due diligence and make sure you understand the value of the players being included. Otherwise you often times can create unnecessary **** storms.

Canes have a bring future on that back end with Faulk, Hanifin, Slavin, Peasce, Fleury all in the organization. You guys should share the wealth

You forgot about Bean, Carrick and McKeown, and Tennyson is pretty solid too. Something is eventually going to give in terms of trading one of these guys for a forward, it's just a matter of time.

I actually completely forgot about Bean yup.

Damn that's a hell of a group.

Duchene for Faulk makes sense for both sides. How about we call our GMs and get the paperwork going

I knew he was doing well last season but I had no idea he would be above Faulk or Hanafin.

I really just saw Car as a team with a handful of good Dmen and in need of an actual high end goaltender (as well as probably some scoring).

There will be goalies such as Fleury, Howard and others that will be available due to the expo draft so they will have options.

Avs really need a 2nd pairing dman to play with Barrie so I figured Car might have a top 4 Damn to move. I assumed Slavin would be 3rd on the depth chart with a lot of promising rookie D there to fill his place.

Thank you for the feedback.

this guy gets it, he had a really strong rookie year.

On a side not Gelinas is why it is good to post frequent posts on HFB. When he first entered the league many fans claimed he was better than Larsson and wanted the moon for him. Fast forward 3 years and the guy just isn't an NHL player.

There are a lot of young Dmen on teams with smaller markets that can be difficult to evaluate. So while this board can be an excellent place to get information on players you aren't as accustomed to, its important to post frequently as some players can be overrated.
Now I'm not saying that is the case here. I know Slavin was a good player, but now it will be interesting to keep an eye on him myself now that fans are claiming him to be better than Hanafin and Faulk.

I remember Canes fans being incredibly high on Faulk. But are now open to moving him, is it because he's not living up to a certain potential you thought he had? Or the fact that others (Hanifin/Slavin) are improving so much so that losing him for offense upfront now makes much more sense then it would have a season or two ago?

Its hard because there are fans in every fan base who are for moving certain players, and it is pretty difficult to find fans who are able to properly evaluate dmen.

I put in a good amount of research into his current year which is why I was so surprised by the responses I got. First line shot generation, top 4 possession and not the best shot suppression. Also his with or without isn't that great.

He seems to me like a good young top 4 shut down D but none of his numbers suggest him to be better than Faulk and while he currently seems to be better than Hanafin, the kid has some major pedigree.

As far as sharing the wealth they are going to have to with the expansion draft coming up. Which is why I felt a Dman that they would lose for free for a goalie another team would lose for free makes sense. Not that Slavin wouldnt be protected but they have so many young D they have options.
