[COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

Since leaving Nathan Mackinnon's wing Rantanen is on pace for 17 goals and 43 points over 82 games.

Not bad.

Guess we can put an end to the whole "who carries who" debate on the main boards between MacK and Mikko.
I like RIAL’s graphics about the amount of O zone time against the Stars, TML and Sens as well as points breakdown on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines. I really like the way this team is constructed now.

Mack only got good when Rantanen came in the team ! :sarcasm:

Technically our lovely Edmontonian fans are correct. MacK was never the top scorer for the Avalanche until Mikko played more than ten games a season for the Avalanche.

The famous 2016-2017 season.

So indeed Mikkos poor legs had to carry all this time MacK and his performances.

Nuke scored 9 goals in his last 155 games as a Dallas Star. This includes 0 in 57 games of his last season there.

He was absolutely useless.
No I meant development wise they failed. I think they've been lucky lately. Of course maybe some part good scouting too.

Remember Detroit? They were the best yet nowadays not that impressive with their scouting. All those players chosen at sixth round or seven are usually for a reason.

Just saying Dallas might not have the same success in the future as they had now. Also they will blow their draft picks for rentals and so on.

The Dallas fans on the Stars HF Forum (all 3 of them) are not happy with Mikko and see the same type of stuff that drove us nuts over the last couple of years. Love Mikko. But not at 12 X 8. As somebody said above, if this keeps up, that contract could be a millstone around the Stars neck for a while.

Our roster now would not be possible at the price tag Mikko was asking. CMac played his cards perfectly.

Yeah wherever he goes the team starts struggling. He was probably very good fit here in Denver for himself. He was gifted Makar and MacK. It made him lazy and this is the outcome when he needs to do it himself again.

I think he is ambitious guy and he will come back stronger after summer. Imo. He will put more effort in his workouts.

Mikko = Necas, Lindgren, and Drury + cap wiggle room for next year.

It’s a huge win anyway you look at it.
That's not true actually. More like Necas+Drury+EJ. The Avs only got like 1M in capspace after the Mikko trade.

The added flexibility for next year is HUUUUGE though, especially now that Landy is more likely than not to make a comeback.

No, it's Necas, Drury, and Lindgren. The Avs used picks acquired in the Rantanen deal for Lindgren.

Out: $10.825m
  • Rantanen 9.25m
  • Parssinen $775k
  • De Haan $800k
  • $450k capspace
In: $11.275m
  • Necas $6.5m
  • Lindgren $2.25m
  • Drury $1.725m
  • Vesey $800k
  • $5.5m capspace in 2025/26 (i.e. the difference between Rantanen's $12m and Necas $6.5m)

Imagine Mikko is just a 65-70 point guy going forward.
Blows up Dallas’ cap while playing lazy one dimensional hockey.
Wyatt Johnston demands a trade for being underpaid relatively and working way harder, after playing a dozen games in Carolina gets flipped to the Avs.
Avs win cups.
Tulsky gets a banner raised.

Is your natural instinct just to disagree with anything that is posted in this thread or what? :D

We used the 2nd and 4th round picks from the Mikko trade to get Lindgren.

It’s what I said it was.

It's not really going to blow up their cap though. In the 2027/28 season his cap hit will be equivalent to about a 9.3 million dollar contract today. He'll be 31 then and will likely still be a great player.
