Amazing for a player that has never hit above 71 points in a season. Rantanen is a far superior player. 2 straight 100 point seasons and a 90 point one before that. Give me a call when Necas does half that (he won't).
Wait if he is recording 70 pt seasons isn't that more than half

Been a while since we had a midseason trade like this. Strange to see a contending team decide they’d rather get value for a player as opposed to trying to win a second time with him.

Didn't read all 24 pages but came here to clown on Chicago.

Retained 50% of Rantanen, meaning they were crucial in getting this deal done, and all they got was a third rounder?

If that doesn't explain the Blackhawks management in a nutshell, nothing does.
I feel their young handsome gm is flying under the radar as incompetent

I just love the balls on MacFarland.

I wonder what MacKinnon is feeling but hard to believe he wasn't consulted.

There's no way I'm paying Mikko 13M+ for what he's shown me the last 2 calendar years - production and rising cap aside.

Smart GM asset management move at the very least, and I wish well to Carolina. Imagine a meeting in the finals!

I bet Colorado does trade Mittlestadt after all. Otherwise if they keep him, they're looking very good down the middle.

MacKinnon
Necas
Mittlestadt
Colton

Colorado lost a superstar but they got a bit deeper.

Necas has not played center as an NHLer. There have been opportunities to try him there and the organization didn’t even try.

He will do what MacKinnon does, swooping and attacking with speed, playing on the wing, but expect a true center out there to support him.

Necas is not a center. Why do people keep saying this?

Colton is better at wing also.

MacK
Mittelstadt
Drury
Parssinen/Kelly

Is probably the natural center line-up.

Necas replaces Rantanen at RW.

I wonder what the chances are the Canes would actually let Mikko get to free agency in the summer. You don’t make this trade without knowing ballpark what Mikko and his agent are wanting.

Is it 100% they are gonna give Rantanen the full boat contact he wants?
Supposedly rantanen rejected a trade to CAR a week ago. My guess is that in the interim the Canes let his people know that yes, they plan to sign him this summer

sucks to lose Rants but I kinda like it for the Avs. means a change in culture btw because in the past this org would rather see the player leave for nothing rather than making a move in-season.

they got Necas, who is not a huge downgrade from Rants, costs almost 3M less and is almost 3 years younger. signed for one more season while Rants is an upcoming UFA. along with 2 picks (including a 2nd. Avs generally suck at drafting but when they manage to do a nice finding, its always in the 2nd) and a 3C/4C, which is useful for them. they started the season with freaking Chris Wagner down there.

and more important: they got now a czech winger and a Drury center in the team. these bring back good memories...

You know the Canes gave up Necas right? The 11th highest scoring player in the league?
Rantanen is the better player hands down. If Necas blows it up, then they're back to square one trying to re-sign a top caliber guy, but not as top caliber the guy they just let go. Guys like Mikko just don't become available, ESPECIALLY not w/o high picks and top prospects added, even with a really good player going back the other way.

My personal feeling is Rantanen was a little checked out. He always brought it, but I think he wanted a change of scenery. Avs lose the trade because they give up the best player. But they get cap flexibility and can build depth now.

Will always root for the Moose though. Go get em Canes.
