Not a huge loss for the Penguins nor a huge gain for the Avs.

There were UFAs that you could sign for league min that are better.

Oh well.

Size and physicality mostly.
In his limited minutes in Pittsburgh, that's literally all he seemed to bring. Wasn't that good defensively and was pretty bad at moving the puck.

Granted, Colorado seems to be able to turn these guys into useful #6/7 D lately, so who knows. But on paper, he doesn't bring all that much to the table other than "will hit and fight".

Can he skate? We seem to do well with big dumb dudes who can skate.

There’s fans on this site, who rip players like him because they don’t have the visible speed or a physical trait that stands out, but coaches like the basics, much more than players who make you wanna pull your hair out. Especially playing (limited minutes) on a bottom pairing or being your 7th Dman.

He does the basics well enough that coaches will trust him to make good decisions, over players who are more physically gifted, but can’t make it through a period without making bad decisions.

If you can’t understand why a team claims a Ludvig over a Bear, you wouldn’t get very far coaching or managing a hockey team at any level.

Avs defense needed a guy with a pulse from a size and physicality standpoint, not that Ludvig is that big.

Kylington and Brannstrom are disappointing creampuffs.

Malinski has probably made the top six. Ludvig will at least probably be up as the #7 to start to get a look. Which means really only one spot for one of the aforementioned trio. CDH probably stays as the low maintenance vet so there’s a chance at least one of the Swedes is waived, probably Brannstrom at minimum.
That bad? Lol sens fans stil upset about Brannstrom. Hilarious stuff.

His dad was low-key one of my favorite players. Wish John had his dad's fire.
I was looking forward to calling him 'son of Craig' but unfortunately, his dad is Jan Ludvig. (Also it's not spelled the same - Craig Ludwig)

Jan showed up in Buffalo off waivers from NJ and went off. But he also tore up one knee, missed a year, then tore up the other. He was like a cornered badger. Wish he had stayed healthy.
