Instinctively I think Avs need to use whatever cap space they have at trade deadline on a player that can play higher up in the lineup. I don't think rearranging the fourth line is the move when you are going for it.

You are correct in worrying that he would not be an actual upgrade on the ice, but everybody knows you need some mullet to win in the NHL, and Eakin has that going for him in spades.

Do not underestimate the value he would bring to Colorado in that essential category.....

He is um... not so good at hockey at this level anymore. OP is either Cody Eakin or a relative of him. Because I can't imagine why anyone would think he is a good fourth line center. He can win faceoffs but that is about all he brings in a traditional fourth line role.

He’s on the downside of his career but has experience and is a decent center at faceoffs.
He is the kind of vet that gets a 2/3 at the deadline
