What was up with the Trouba fellating psyop tonight? Gotta love that one segment happened right before he got walked hardcore by Marchenko.

Nothing beats him completely eating Kent Johnson 1v1 and then completely misfiring on an easy pass to spring a 3 on 1 that led to an icing.

Thats Trouba in a nutshell. Even when he does something good, he pretty much immediately follows it up with something bad.

He obviously needs more time in the AHL but Rempe actually seems like he may be able to develop into an NHL 4th liner. It's night and day looking at him now vs his first training camp. His size makes him so unique, he can cover so much ground that if he can learn how to be effective at the NHL level, he could actually have an NHL future which is amazing considering where he was at when he was drafted.

Edstrom is going to be (or at least should be) penciled in as an NHL regular next season. Not sure if he's going to stick going into the playoffs, Drury will most likely want to add 2 forwards which will probably push him out but he's incredibly close. He seems like he's already keyed in to how to use his size effectively, he's great with his reach and making himself big.

I agree he could use a bit more time but I'll go right out on a limb and say Rempe could become a good 3rd liner/middle 6. Needs the reps like you said. Heck if he can learn/take PK duties with that wingspan...

Really liked he got through the game without fighting, but in the same breath he was front and center if things were getting a touch sideways tonight.

Right after yet another mistimed pinching attempt by guess who. Zib got passed by too.

BTW what Trouba should have done there? Marchenko ain't a dummy. He walked at least 4 of our top players there if we count Shesty.

I was so bitter when we scored on the pp. We gain the zone and Kreider has a drop pass to the point available to him to get things organized and he throws a muffin down the boards behind the net. Shouldn’t have those egregious mistakes rewarded.

LOL how about not try to take his head off? He doesn’t get walked if he doesn’t try to send him back to Columbus.

Also I wasn’t aware that you could pinch on the center ice side of the blue line.

Semantics.

If he just backed up you'd bashed him for that. Tho I agree the outcome might have been more favourable

It’s not semantics, it’s literally not a pinch. Attacking up ice is the right call when you have layers of help behind you, you want to snuff out that rush chance ASAP.

Funny, you got on miller for doing exactly what Trouba did when he had help behind him vs MacK but when Trouba does it (with no help behind him) it’s a good hit attempt. Double standards much? He doesn’t even need to back up, he could have just properly angled himself and tried to defend him straight up, he did it earlier in the game against a player who is just as, if not more elusive and actually defended him successfully.

He's grown tremendously this season and is still just 22. If he can keep it up in the playoffs, having him on the 3rd pair is huge. He's ready for top 4 duty next season whether Trouba is here or not IMO.

At some point stuff will open up to get him off the 3rd pair. I still firmly believe he's the real deal.

Like our other youngsters in the forward corps and many of us clamoring for them to be in the top 6. for years now.

He needs to play the puck a little less sometimes. He almost got caught earlier in the game after misplaying the puck and had to scramble back to make a save.

I think about his bomb to Zibs in the playoffs last year that lead to the go ahead goal in a 2-2 game against Pittsburgh. (just an example) - for me he gets a free pass to play the puck. When you do that, especially as a goalie, mistakes can be made. It comes with the territory if you venture out frequently.

But he's made so little puck-handling mistakes over the years considering how much he does handle the puck (IMO) - for me, keep doing what you're doing. We have a great goalie with a bonus skill that is rare around the league. Cheers man!

Sometimes the other teams get paid also even if they are near the bottom of the standings. CBJ are going to give other teams fits the last 20 games. You watch.
This. Columbus players are also auditioning for the deadline and next season. The rangers may not have been super focused but I’ll almost never say these guys give a shitty effort. Hockey just tends to look shitty in February, especially when the combatants are in extremely different spots.

He turned 30.

Yes, getting older is not a guarantee that a player will drop off quickly - but it is way more likely.

For every Kreider or Panarin who defies time, there's five or six Zibanejads and Troubas who fall off to unacceptable levels.
If by turning 30, you mean getting paid and having a family, then sure. Limitations have been imposed by Mika. Not his age.

Those things are incidental to turning 30.

It's his legs too though. He's constantly standing around.

Yeah, it's probably part that he's making "business decisions," but everything degrades. Legs, reflexes, speed in decision making, etc.

Kreider has fallen off in many respects too - he's not nearly as fast anymore - but he just managed to re-invent himself into a version of a player that is way better than the earlier version that still possessed all the skill. He's honed one particular skill that doesn't require as much high end athletics.

Panarin is just a god damned unicorn. He also doesn't have the mileage on him either, so there's that.

If we're talking about people who don't take care of themselves... sure.

Kreider is just as fast but the league has also gotten faster.

It's interesting - so many plays are like that ... it's not just doing one thing, the player has to do two or more, or else the first thing didn't matter.

Hockey's a cool game.

But it's so much harder to take care of yourself when you hit 30 as an athlete, to keep yourself at the same performance level as when you were 26 or 27 is very difficult and most can't do it.

Not a big fan of the turtling in the 3rd that we've seen the last couple weeks. It's giving me Nam-like flashbacks to AV and the Kings series.

Also not a fan of benching Edstrom and Rempe in the 3rd. We've built some leeway to let these guys play and learn, not to mention that they might have been the best line all night
