Buffalo didn’t show up, they mailed this one in.
they let the owner have a speech and they cancelled a practice. it was clear they didn't have any other game plan than come in strong, just had to send the msg to slow the game down. Only a handful of players can do that.Suzuki, Hutzson. Seperate them for the first half, tell them to take their time. GG.

It's not like Marty is working alone. He has a bosses watching him. Tonight it was obvious that Buffalo was coming in strong, and we had to slow the game down. There's only a handful of players that can do that, and we are gonna have to look at the log and see that MSL know the basics. How he handled the lines tonight, the plan works. He's not stupid.
You’re giving credit to Marty for the team only being able to score on the PP and against a team that just loss 10 in a row?

coaching is mostly about managing time for our best players on practice like Suzuki and Hutson. Demidov comes in.Do you have a question ? Do you want to shoot puck on your own time ?

It’s just a stretch to give credit to the coach for this individual win. Coaches influence entire seasons. The team is still dogshit and the worst 5v5 team in the league.

Beat two shit teams and the parade is back on.

LMAO, who's planning a parade?

Habs are playing well, doesn't matter their competition, nor the wins or losses. If they struggle next month to pick up victories against the better teams in the league it won't matter than either. It's all about their efforts and how they're playing. They could lose them all for all I care.

Judging a rebuilding team's coach solely by his win/loss record is stupid. It's not my fault you can't differentiate between the two.

Yeah, cause beating two horrible teams changes things. Come back here at the end of Jan, lol.

Case and point.

I personally like they way we're playing, especially after the trade for Carrier and with Laine back. Wins or not. Crazy how a couple of good players in their proper chairs can help a coach out huh?

Marty, as a coach, has had a ton of shit and adversity to deal with for most of this season, I'm glad he's getting a bit of a reprieve.

Regardless of that, and the inconsistencies, the team has for the most part, been playing and getting better since November, whether you want to admit it or not.

He could be the worst coach in the world. I don’t know. I wasn’t one of the ones (many) that were clamouring to get him.

All I know is that this is the first time he’s had a healthy lineup in 3 years of a rebuilding roster. What kind of results is he supposed to get?

The young kids all in all are doing quite well. Suzuki and CC have progressed well. Maybe they would’ve done it without him.

Xhekaj who was supposed to be MSL’s arch nemesis seems to have turned it around quite positively. Has anyone from that chorus admitted how wrong they were especially with how vehement they were about it?

Is it MSL’s fault he’s had to give prime minutes to Matheson and Savard? If we get real upgrades there I highly doubt MSL’s alleged ineptness would hold us back at that point.

I am bringing this thread back up, so that we remember now and forever the stupidity of it.
Team is last in shots per game, bottom 10 in shots against, bottom 5 in goals against, 19th in goals for (due to the current streak but still below 3 goals per game).
I hope they improve but I don t see how the game against FLA changes anything.

Great that they improve but why would a 5 game sample erase 30 games prior?
They are improving regardless of how poor they started. Will it last? I don't know but the past couple of weeks they look like a team that isn't clueless in their own end. The addition of another vet on D has really helped.

I agree Carrier s arrival may have helped but let s not forget BUF was on down ward spiral and an ECHL team would have beat en them, same for DET which fired their coach, and that Dobes shutout FLA Even though they outshot the Habs 33-24. From my perspective, the results have improved, no denying but I still believe the major flaws are here. That being Said one thing I would bring to MSL credit over the past games is that the Centers Cover the Slot in the Dzone which they were not doing before.

The turn around is noticeable in both wins and advanced stats starting November 11th. So it's not a 5:30 split, it's a 20:15 split which is far more justifiable as real improvement given it's lasted longer then the cold streak to start.

I looked at data since 11/11 until 15/12 (I.e. Before the 5 last games), 2.8 GPG, 3.4 GAPG, 31st in shots for, 17th in shots against. 21th in PPG (0.500), I.e. They improved indeed point wise but they still get outshot steadily, they don t have a lot of ozone possession and when they do it is quite sterile.
If the Benchmark is the Show during Heavy losses vs PIT SEA NYR then sure they have improved but to my earlier point, how does it mean this is enough to say this coaching staff is great ?

We are still getting outshot yes, but given that for example we were 27th in SA/G to start the year getting down to 17th is still a fairly big improvement. The recent 5 game stretch where we have actually been outshooting opponents might not last, but there have been improvements that go well beyond a 5 game hot streak.

The overall picture is still nothing to be excited about, despite some positive signs here and there. Florida is one of the first top teams that the Habs beat. So we'll see. I hope they do turn it around and learn.
