Well, it depends on the definition of ‘sacrifice’, ‘the future’, and ‘quick fix’. That statement could mean anything or nothing. The fact is Hughes right now is doing nothing. The fans and media seems to have hit the panic button..............but the team sure hasn't.
The opposite in fact................Hughes just two weeks ago said they would NOT sacrifice the furture for a quick fix right now.
The onset of the season, they created some expectations, with in the mix....................I think they will watch to see how the team responds to getting Laine in the lineup..............not just how he does, but how the team does.Well, it depends on the definition of ‘sacrifice’, ‘the future’, and ‘quick fix’. Marc Bergevin said he would NOT mortgage the future for immediate help.

That said..............there will be a change or two here fairly soon................could be some waivers, or a trade, but a shake up of sorts, to get guys looking over their shoulders. This type of losing is not going to be tolerated....I don't see Gorton allowing Hughes to continue to do nothing....
No life preserver needed, but there certainly needs to be some changes. They're lockstep.
There is no life preserver coming.
I'm sure the team will get the message - you have to figure out how to come together, compete and get out of this. We are evaluating who is going to be part of this team in its competing form. You can find yourself outside of that picture if you don't put up your performances.
But nothing happens until we see Marty hold a vet accountable. Until that happens, we know that they are completely fine with things as they are.

I like this post a lot.No life preserver needed, but there certainly needs to be some changes.
Did you see Matheson yesterday?? Played like it was the 1st time he wore skates..........which may lead MSL to finally cut his TOI??
Anyhow, there needs to be some kind of shake to the collective group. This is how the Turds and the Sabres are currently running their rebuilds, rinse and repeat, and we do not want this to happen in Montreal.................the rebuild needs to lead to a much different set of results.
Gorton and Hughes might give the vibe of being patient, but behind closed doors, they can't be happy with the first 24 games. The team does not look prepared to start on time most nights for cripes sake....
Picks are great but it takes years for most of them to become solid NHL players, maybe Demidov will be the exception. I am looking forward to next summer as the time when Hughes solidifies the roster and gives the core some help next season. Laine if healthy and in a good place might give us a boost this season but he needs someone to play with because there is only one Suzuki.Another top 3 pick is something this management wants.
#1 at this rate which is a exciting draft againAnother top 3 pick is something this management wants.
The season is done, they might as well ensure they are going to finish at the bottom. Move Dvo, Savard, Armia and what vet they can now and just play all the kids.#1 at this rate which is a exciting draft again
