Coaching is a serious problem.

Ranked number one in terms of players 23 and younger. We’re still in the early stages of a rebuild.

Disappointing year but we’re still on track in terms of the big picture. I have zero problem with our GM.

The coach? Everyone has a shelf life. MSL may have passed his. We’ll see on that front.
HuGo has had so much to do when taking over. The habs had nothing in terms of a business style hierarchy on or off the ice....................The cap issues, the injury issues left behind, and the bad contracts. The only team in the league that did not use analytics, and went on hunches.

So no issues with 2.5 seasons of that at this point...................the ocaches are an entirely different story.
I like Marty The Philosopher, but he needs an X and O guy period. Should never have been an option.

No one cares
lol you can still suck down the middle and score goals., the team has no system and certainly not one the players understand. We had no C's last year either and played much better. Why are we refusing to shoot the puck? Why are players lost? It isn't because we suck in the middle of the ice
We had Monahan helping Suzuki, he was at .7 point per game average in a second-line role.

I believe HuGo would’ve preferred erring on the side of conservatism with public messaging while internally pushing for giant next step in the process.

Molson is a businessman first & not one NHL owner is ok with leaving potential $ on the table for numerous years, 3 was more than enough of a sacrifice in Molson’s eyes
We will defs be buyers/spenders this summer. Especially if we stay in the basement all year

There has to be some changes coming...............the boys upstairs wanted some improvement, and we are not seeing it from the team or the coaches....In the mix...............was the goal. Basically everyone pretty much has $hit the bed.
Expecatations have changed, but nothing else has..................accountability folks, there needs to be some at this point.

Can anyone see us ripping off a 4-5-6 game win streak? We look the same, or some nights worse than last year. MSL is the captain.

Not to single you out, but we're 3-1-1 in the last 5 despite all the negativity. The reality isn't as bleak as the perception.

There's a ton of work to do but the sky isn't falling.

As always, (much to the chagrin of this thread) patience remains the key. Rebuilds aren't for the squeamish, panicking is the last thing we should be doing.

Yeah, but the Habs are still at the bottom of the conference. The team is not bad enough to be bad, not good enough to be good. It's worse, more like being just good enough to be one of the mediocre teams in the lower half of the division. A place where average teams just get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

We have a ton of quality coming up through the ranks, this year is about growth and transition. Hasn't been pretty, but there's plenty of time to right the ship. Help is on the way in the next couple of years, also I fully expect this management team to address some other needs in the offseason.

Roster as it is now will inevitably struggle at times.

People will say we played better last season with same roster, but the truth is we've only gotten younger, and lost some helpful pieces in Monahan, Harris and Kovacevic.

Hopefully Laine will give this team a boost.

I hope you are right..............my post was shortly after the 13 shot performance and OT loss to the Utah Red Army.
I have always said, patience is tough these days.
MSL needs help.

 Bolded made me chuckle.

Call me crazy, but I thought for the first 40 minutes we were the better team against Utah despite shot totals, the 3rd however was indeed disappointing.

Rebuild phase is over, rightly or wrongly…. it ended once the owner uttered the words “the plan this year is to be in the mix for the playoffs” to kickoff the golf tournament. After which Gorton & Hughes were left with no choice but to follow suit w the bosses mandate “ in the mix”

I don't interpret any of this to the rebuild being over. What management was saying was that they were hoping to play some more meaningful games down the stretch. It doesn't mean that they were expecting to make the playoffs let alone be a factor in them.

Gorton came into the picture about 3 years ago and has 3 drafts under his belt. I can't logically see how a rebuild can be completed in that time frame.

I actually felt like we played okay against Utah in the first two as well but penalties were crazy.

Still feel like we get nowhere near the offensive pressure we need to. I thought we’d have improved there this year but we’re off even from previous seasons.

I'm not sure what makes you think that the hab are not "bad enough to be bad". It's a quarter mark into the season and they are 1 point away from the bottom of the league.

On the flipside, I saw a tweet earlier which was basically calling out the supposed top teams all who don't seem to have the "it" factor this year either. There's alot of "mid" league wide.

Pressure has gotten better to me, they are spending more time in the ozone. There is still work to do with player's positioning offensively to generate more shots, but then the lines/pairs gets blended every 2 games or during games so...

We had good pressure last night. The game before we had 13 shots.

Seriously, even Caufield is way off his normal shot totals. We just aren't generating enough.

Specially since the last two high 1st round pick are not in the NHL atm.

Habs killed their offense to get their team defense working. I'm not sure why people around here are surprised about that.

They seems to be slowly ramping up offensive 5v5 adjustements to get offense going without destroying their team defense.
