Lol Eric Engells is the english version of Renaud ''habs management can't do no wrong'' Lavoie.

But to be fair the system looked better the last 2 games, let's see how it goes in the next 10 before bragging about it.

The only thing to expect with the team at this stage of their development is alot of volatility.
For now, I'm just happy thay they have shown the ability to execute, but it's bound to be a bumpy ride moving forward.

I mean, after seeing how difficult it has been for dach to rekindle his past form, Laine could very well have the same issues coming back as well.

While dach/Laine sounds good in theory, it could be a disaster at this particular time.
Dach/Caufield with Slaf. That’s what I’d do. Get Kirby going with our best wingers.

Laine can go with Nick.

Wouldn't be that silly. Riddle me this, what facet of hockey is Kirby Dach better at than Slafkovsky? Add into the fact his career faceoff % is around 35%, it makes as much or more sense to try Slaf at the centre position at this time than it does Dach.

Kirby Dach is a much better transporter of the puck through the zones and gaining entry into the offensive zone. Those primary puck carrying duties are not what makes Slafkovsky effective at this point in time, nor has Slafkovsky taken any meaningful reps at center in many, many years.

This board has an obsession with turning centers into wingers, wingers into centers and defenseman into wingers.

Don't say that here, lol. Having Dach at center is very logic on paper. On paper. In reality he doesn't look ready to have that duty. He is not the Dach we saw before his injury, when he was a power forward center in his 2 games before his injury. It's good to have a poster like you who is pragmatic. You are clever enough to think under the actual circumstances, he is not ready. He could get his game back pretty soon, or take a long time. But actually the best 2c is Jake Evans, followed by "Mr Smile" Christian Dvorak. It's not normal, we all know that, we are all awaiting to see the real Dach getting his game back.

Laine is probably in the same situation, I don't expect him to shine very soon. He will probably take few weeks to get his game to his natural level.

Laine is coming back from an injury. As much as I see him as a true #1 line player, I think the first games he should be on the 2nd or 3rd line. Gallagher is the one who deserve to be on the #1 line with Suzuki. In one week after his return Laine can go to the #1 line, this is without saying. That's my opinion dude, respect for you. It's not because my opinion is a bit different than yours that I don't respect you. We are here as friends who discuss hockey and chill. ;)

Hey, we’re talking about line combos… everyone will have a different opinion there no worries.

The reason I’d make it Dach/CC/Spaf is to get Dach going. I’d put Laine with Suzuki so Nick could get Laine going.

Who knows what would work though? None of us have a crystal ball.

I’d just like to see Dach back at center.

This board is also a place where the systems of play are never debated. This board is all about individual skills, individual stats, individual comparaisons, etc. I always say hockey is a team sport. The systems of play are a major element. Hockey is like a chess play. We can have the best skaters with some of them with high end skills, if they don't play a system that works, they will be looking like chickens without head running everywhere for no reason. But of course to have a system that works, players have to execute it. It have to be learned and it requires players with a minimum of hockey IQ and dedication. They have to forget their personal stats and play for the logo in the front, not the name in the back.

We agree. Long term Dach have to play center. The only differnce of opinion we have is when he will be back at center.

I doubt it, it's probably more that Slaf might soon be the only lefty option when the center gets chased in the top 6 once Newhook gets bumped down so Laine can have a spot there.
Is Newhook defenitivly out of center position? With the lack of quality at center, maybe try him again at center can be a temporary solution. Except for FO, can he be worse than Dvorak?

I really doubt Newhook is going to start to center the 2nd line over Evans once Laine return if that is what you are asking.

I was thinking of the third line. I don't know if in recent games Dvo was a passenger or a usefull player.
Dvorak has been fine between Gallagher/Anderson these last few games.

And that's actually a bit of a problem, Newhook doesn't fit with the 4th line identity (which is playing very well) and the 3rd line is all vets who are playing well too.

But 3rd line center is probably where Newhook ends up once Dvorak is moved (if ever).
