Montgomery for assistant is a silly idea. You don't undermine your head coach with galaxy brain moves like that.

Either fire MSL and offer Montgomery a head coaching job, or allow Marty to coach the team out of the current troubles.

You can quietly communicate to Montgomery that the job might be open in the summer and he'll be the first choice if we decide to part with MSL by that time.
Why do posters keep overlooking MSL has an Assistant / Associate experienced coach he personally brought on board this summer - one who is renowned in the industry for his tactical Xs & Os?

Roger Grillo…

Just because he’s not on the bench don’t assume he isn’t paying attention to details of every shift during a game … there’s this innovation called technology which allows it

Gorton & Hughes have made it quite clear in words & action they are going to be innovative in all aspects from traditional hockey ops… that aspect is being overlooked by many who only look through the prism of how traditional Habs hockey ops has functioned, since Frank Selke Sr’s innovative approach to the NHL back in 1947 upon taking command of the Habs org

You seriously Believe Montgomery is just going to wait for the Habs to call him this summer? A coach of his quality will find work very soon.

I remember that moment at that draft like yesterday. Everyone thought the Broons blew it the very moment they skipped over Barzal, Connor and Chabot.
Boston could have been a powerful team like Tampa Bay....

Nashville would be foolish to not entertain the possibility of switching their coach to Montgomery
Add Anaheim and Pittsburgh. He is going to find work very soon. I don't see him being available in the summer.

I think we go for the cup after the long break this week . Marty and the boys have some time to get studious

maybe they can remind Slaf and the rest of the kids what a goal looks like, show them some video

I take it Habs are not getting Montgomery... I mean why would they... Le sigh.

too much experience, we only hire inexperienced guys with huge egos.

Not a chance…. Cronin is Verbeek’s guy and one of Dubas’ conditions on being named GM was Sullivan stays his contract duration, it was reported again this week, ownership & Crosby love him

Also Montgomery isn’t a Dubas type analytics guy.

I do wonder if floundering Avs make a coaching change and bring in former U of Denver coach back or well known impatient Utah ownership force a coaching change?

And I don’t think Montgomery would be interested in Pittsburgh Head Coach job

Most of us think Montgomery would be a great addition as assistant coach. But would Monty want to come here? MSL is secure and not leaving, what's in it for Monty to come here?

If MSL didn't get us close to where we wanted, Monty next year would have been a foregone conclusion.

Looks like our next shot at him will be when he gets fired from whatever gig he gets this year.

There is no one else who merits or is good enough to be a 2c currently so he is the only choice.
But what happen if this year reveal that he can't hold the 2c chair? Hage seems very good but he will be ready in how many years? If Dach doesn't fit the chair at C, he can become a pretty option at wing but a problem will remain, Habs will need a C. And also Dvorak will be gone at TDL, so there will be another chair at C to fill. Maybe Beck will be the answer but I doubt he will be excellent at NHL level. Habs fans tends to overate their prospects.

I imagine Montgy with his success sheet with the bruins, he comes here and MLS ask him hey buddy can you get me a coffee 2 cream, no sugar, lol.

They're going to give Dach plenty of time to see if he can solidify himself as the 2C when he gets his game back, but Dach establishing himself as a 2C or not won't change anything, I don't think the front office is sitting there saying there's anything they won't do if it meant upgrading what they had.

They've also understood that RD, C and size with skill are the most coveted items to have and explicitly targeted those things whenever they could.

Dach could go on a 70 pt pace at center by the end of the year and they wouldn't hesitate to make an offer on Sam Bennett in FA, or take Misa in the draft.

Maybe he is like those offensive coordinators we see in the NFL watching the game from some booth and calling the shots.

It was going to take Grillo some 10 GP to get a good read on the roster, player tendencies in order to provide methodologies towards tailoring implementation of tactics

They should have Dach at center now.

Probably waiting for Laine but...

I also wouldn't mind adding another Demidov, Hutson, or Suzuki - or our version of Kaprisov, Kucherov, Panarin, Bratt, Jack Hughes, etc...

That's a player I would love to see in a Habs jersey
