Coaching is a serious problem.

I'm going to presume the fact that he plays ~30min a game has contributed quite a lot to his increasingly negative defensive numbers.
In the 7 games stretch, there was only one game where he played 27 minutes, his lowest was 21, the rest was season average. I don't think his TOI explain the "shift" in GA, his TOI didn't change that much between the first 9 and next 7 games.

Further on in the season, if I’m a Ducks or Jackets fan, I start being seriously pissed off to not see Hutson on the first PP. The Habs lineup get the message that this is not a meritocracy and winning is not what it’s all about.
The Ducks can go f*** themselves even if we were to send Hutson down to Laval.
A team who played well below it's potential in a far easier conference and who lost 14 f***ing games straight to end a season before the Bedard draft.
There were two teams in the west who tanked with impunity they were one of them.
I've had so much more respect for Arizona these past couple of seasons compared to those scrubs.

And he would become the best candidate available even without the language thing
What's going on with Bruins and Montgomery? Why are people saying he will be fired? I mean bruins are not doing great so... is it the coach? Cause they used to be decent and even contending under montgamery.

MSL in his presser yesterday

“I love how we defend. We’re very connected…we’re tough to play against defensively''

Can you wait a stretch of 10 good games before saying something like that.

This guy just like to hear himself speak

he sounds like a politician, in denial. Basis the entire team's play around beating 2 of the worst teams in the league lol. What a wanker

In french we say ''l'art de se mettre les pieds dans les plats'', and that's not the first time he does it, right after the Buffalo game he said ''the boy's had enough of losing''.......wow.

God forbid we get blown tonight, what is he gonna say.

This guy talk to much.

The coach is typically the meat shield when things go wrong but I think what they really need is a retool more then anything. It’s crazy they’ve went this long without needing one.

Have to hand it to the players and coaches. They've been playing a more cohesive defensive game the last handful of games. It's not prefect, but you see there's progress. They're generally protecting the house more, getting in shooting lanes, blocking shots or getting their sticks in the way either to cut a pass or deflect a shot. And in most cases, they also get the puck away from the danger area quickly.

The forwards are also helping with the back check, which makes a difference. And it's not because they shut out Edmonton and beat Columbus only. Even in Minnesota, despite losing 3-0, they played a good defensive game.

Maybe this is just a few good games and they'll go back to their chickens-with-their-heads-cut-off type of defending. But the real hope is this is a trend and not just a good run.

It's not that I'm not expecting them to struggle with consistency, they're still a young team and their D-Corps is still inexperienced. But it would be nice if this is a sign of things to come.

And if I'm not mistaken, Carolina does play the hybrid style that MSL is trying to instill. I could be wrong about Canes' defensive system, though.
I don't think it's just the hybrid nature that makes it take a while.
Most coaches don't give the whole thing in one go to the players because it would be too much to adjust to.

Brind'Amour says his systems takes about 2 years to learn, so not unlikely that learning/implementing everything do take years.
Well that’s great considering 75% of the team is deadwood that won’t be here in that timeframe. So really you’re implementing a "system" to teach the 5-6 core players and hope that somehow all of the new ones coming in learn it far quicker. If not, you’re just floundering.

It makes sense for the Canes who weren’t going to make massive changes to an already talented team. It makes no sense for the Habs.

Unpopular opinion after a shutout and a 5-1 victory but I don t think this team has been so much better defensively over the past two games, esp vs EDM where Monty saved their asses in period 1 and 2, like vs TOR during first game of the season.

However one change I find is welcome : in the Dzone, Dmen were less enclined to follow their players behind the net which freed less opportunities from the slot.
