Personally I don't give a flying F what good teams are doing it has no bearing on what we are not able to do.
All I keep hearing out of people is what SC teams and contenders are doing.
The point is that no system can save this team. Flip-flopping system is probably the worse thing they could do.

Interestingly our goals saved above expected is basically even for both goalies. That means they're making the saves they're generally expected to make. They're no longer saving the Ds asses, which is what they were both doing last year.

Now that doesn't mean they don't let in bad goals. A bad goal would gain a negative, but a big save would gain them a positive, so it all ends up evening out.
Interesting.............my take is neither goalie is really looking very good this year. I know the D owns some of this, and of course the coaches own some of this.

People need to stop blaming man-to-man.

A lot of NHL teams play man to man, notably Dallas and the Avs. I don't mind it, we just need better personel playing and coach wise.
So, you think the man to man is working??
We are 32nd in the league....
Sometimes a coach needs a gameplan that fits his squad.
Demidov, Hage and Fowler are not here yet.....

The team sucks. The team will suck no matter what they play. It's a very dumb argument to blame a system. As I said, goodnight, even great teams employ the same system.

Disagree.......playing sound D in your own end should be an easy thing to do.......if you employ a system on D or say the PP and it doesn't work..............you what?? Change it.

Did you think the Sabres were good defensively tonight? They don't play man.

We've been much better defensively the past few games. Primeau made the game closer than it shoudl've been. Offensively we were brutal against TO, better today.

I agree, we should probably change the system. If we don't, hopefully we continue to see imrpovements but I'm not optimistic about that.

If it's not working.........as mentioned, you change it, it's really that simple. You don't pull a Therrien and double down and triple down. You change it..............Simplify what is broken.

The belief is that a team will get better with time. It's not a Playstation application where you try it one game and it doesn't work you change it, it's part of the rebuild the same as player development.

One game????????????????? It's been 2 seasons, and 16 games of horseshit D zone coverage. We are playing the same way, the THIRD season in a row, and you don't want to change it?

Again, PP sucks, you change it...............PK sucks you change it...............The coaching has to react to poor D zone play, and...............................Change it. You work with you have. 16 games into a season, you don't say sorry folks we suck in our own end, let's wait until we draft 4-5 new Dmen. Maybe a Pronger, and Chelios is out there, so let's tank some more....

I hope Marty is smart enough to keep Caufield and Suzuki split indefinitely.
We know Cole is a goal scorer but so is Suzuki and we don't need him constantly looking for Caufield.
I'd go with a Dach Newhook switch even if Kirby is still on the wing he's more of a play maker than Newhook and Evans combined.

The 2nd line was trash, I expect CC back on the 1st next game, with probably Slaf going back to the 2nd line again.

2 of the 3 toughest players are scratched, or rarely used.

Habs have 2 young dmen that either don't play, or play very little.

I'm sorry, but I think both are messed.

Then you look at the prospect pool, like reallllly look and you'll see it's overrated.

Team has alllllooooottttttt of things they need to sort out and maaaaaybe just maaaaaaybe scouting is there.

Granted the Habs did just graduate a lot of players to the A, but given the picks and how much this team has sucked there should be more players making you think of a potentially bright future than just 4, or 5

Sure let's break up the duo that actually works. :huh:
Caufield needs to pick up his game 5v5 and maybe even start winning some puck battles.
He was -2 today and deserved to be -2 today without blaming his line mates.
If the puck isn't going into the net off Caufield's stick it's just going off his stick.
Lane Hutson plays like beast compared to him both along the wall and in traffic.
I said it last game split Caufield away from Suzuki and Nick would find his game and that is exactly what happened.

I don't think coaching is a serious problem.

There I said it.

I'm glad we got a coach whose career success doesn't depends on short terms gains at the expense of long terms objectives.

We're rebuilding. MSL knows the plan. And he can stand in the heat and take the pressure from this market on a daily basis.

He is not an idiot and he's a good communicator. And he cares.

He's a good fit for what's needed here.

But I do believe we lack one or two influential vets who could stabilize the room and groom our kids.

Splitting them is fine.

Splitting them and having Cc with Evans is dumb.

It was brutal. I’ve suggested it before but we need but to get Dach going as our 2nd line center. I’d have him in between CC and Slaf for a few games. Hopefully that gets him going and then you can start playing around with different combinations.

Strange to read that some people defend MSL coaching.MSL coaching recordView attachment 927693

Last year the team lost very often but the players worked. I don't see the same effort from the players this year. Also, former coaches, players say that MSL's game system is pathetic, that he gets outcoached very often and many of his comments after games are strange (I don't care about winning...)
Front office really. Team was unprepared to take step forward. Mostly young defense with a coach who never coached above Bantam before. GM didn't know see. Should never have been.

This team is so disorganized and Marty is making it even harder with all the line changes. We know CC is one-dimensional, but he is currently best in whole NHL. Can we just stick with CC-Suzuki-Slaf line, so we at least have one functional line rather than two struggling. Put 2nd line of Armia-Evans-Anderson and ask them to be shut down line. They are not part of long-term plan, so no need to learn offensive concepts, just ahut down the opposition. 3rd line Gally-Dach-Newhook, with lesser quality of opposition, they should be able to work and slowly find their game.

MSL has many attributes which make him a good coach, but the X and O's and strategy etc does not seem like his game...............the line changes, can be brutal or they work, he might be hearing the media too much?? Still think an Associate coach could help big time....

If they don't get some saves from the goalies, the season will be toast anyhow, no matter what anyone does....both those kids are brutal right now.

For some reason, I still think they can come out of this, and play 500 hockey. This young core to me, is close to taking a positive step, and hopefully around game 20-24 the boys upstairs can make a trade or two that will help. Still too early to talk tanking for me.....

After 16 games...

* 5-9-2, 0.375% (Ranks 31st)
* 2.88 GF/GP (Ranks 18th)
* 4.13 GA/GP (Ranks 32nd).. Next closest is at 3.88.

* 23.2 PP% (Ranks 9th)
* 80.4 PK% (Ranks 15th)

* 47.4% Faceoff% (Ranks 27th)

* 23.5 Hits/60 (Ranks 11th)
* 18.84 Blocks/60 (Ranks 2nd)
* 15.42 Giveaways/60 (Ranks 25th)
* 5.22 Takeaways/60 (Ranks 21st)

Timely turnovers and D zone mistakes are the major problems! This team needs an experience assistant who is strong at coaching defense. Probably helps but not sure by how much. We have issues at center after Suzuki and our D is too young. Said it before and will say it again, this is a youth and inexperience issues more than coaching. Not surprised to see some fans and media try to take that out on MSL.

It's a resilient group no matter how young our roster is. Not sure where they end up but they got to start limiting goals. It's the number 1 problem and it's creating havoc both with player confidence and with the fans/media.

If we fall, we fall. Better pick

If we rise a bit, the core gets some rough skin growth from overcoming the rough start. Only 3-5 pts from a wild card spot :laugh:
