Contextually this was after the refs made the terrible call after letting 3 blatant NJD penalties go.

Brunet was talking about how few pass completions we have through the neutral zone the worst in the league by a very wide margin.
We claim to be a team who wants to play fast but we either skate the puck or try a stretch pass to an isolated forward.
Where is the offensive genius in that is that the best we can do?

I noted how Hughes who three or four times found himself alone in space decided to circle or pass back to rebuild the play.
The Devils rarely attempted solo attacks and were often able to rebuild without having to retreat behind their net.
There is something to be said for keeping the play tighter to the bench when changing forwards.

Even if we execute MSL's game plan I really don't see how decent hockey is going to come out of it.

Going by Laval, the Habs aren't even playing how they are supposed to be playing structurally. It's like every players think they are a generational offensive talent who doesn't need the others instead of playing as a team.

I feel sorry for the poor chap that gets to replace MSL...

Yes he should have had an experienced assistant once Richardson left.. now it's hard to get one in there, if they do, it has to be a unilingual guy that isn't seen as a potential successor.

No way they can put someone behind the bench that would get calls to replace Marty, it'd be a powder keg that would blow way too quickly.

The problem is that Habs are often stuck in their own zone because the other team is able to get a successful cycle going. So Habs players are exhausted from extended shifts and then clear the puck, and the other team comes right back.

And the other problem is that when Habs do get a cycle going, it doesn't last long because someone either fumbles the puck or is easily neutralized and the puck is back out.

Firing MSL and picking next up on the roulette wheel of the same old francophone coaches is a Bergevin bandaid fix. The rebuild will take time. This is a team with inexperienced defencemen, two AHL caliber goalies, and a handful of grossly underperforming forwards. A fresh coach may get a few wins out of the gate as a fresh face, but it will be the same bunch of losers eventually.

I expect Lane Hutson to be quarterbacking the 1st PP. Unless you're literally blind I don't see how that isn't an obvious play. The ice time allocation and lines still make 0 sense. No players aside from CC are improving, MSL has 0 experience coaching pro hockey. Stop defending the indefensible
