The IIHF Disciplinary Panel has suspended coaches Oleg Znarok and Rikard Gronborg for the 2014 IIHF World Championship gold and bronze medal games respectively.

The suspension comes as a result of a heated exchange between the two coaches, which saw Russian head coach Znarok make a throat-slashing gesture toward Swedish assistant coach Gronborg near the end of yesterday’s semi-final game between Russia and Sweden.

Whole sequence:

In the case of Znarok, he was found to be in violation in accordance with IIHF Rule 551 D)3 for making an obscene gesture to Gronborg.
Coach Gronborg was found to be in violation of Rule 551 D)2 which states that: Any team official who makes a travesty of, or is detrimental to the conduct of the game shall be assessed a match penalty. Gronborg, Sweden's assistant coach, was suspended for making, according to the IIHF Rulebook “a travesty of the game by conducting himself in a detrimental manner by directing foul and profane language” toward coach Znarok.

As a result of the suspension Znarok and Gronborg will not be allowed to be involved with the team in any manner prior to or during the game. This also includes any post-game ceremonies.

Oleg Znarok at press conference: "I had a sore throat"

Grönborg should consider some anger management help. Not the first time he gets this furious. During WJC he lost it too. Water bottles sent flying through the air

That embellishment by Plotnikov in the first clip is equally bad.

Gets a little push by Backlund, goes down, looks up at the refs, looks down again pretending to have some serious difficulties.

He should've gotten a game for that aswell.

Let's try one thing.. You take 60mph puck to your leg, and then when you get up with your leg hurt, someone comes and pushes you? How would you react?

That would be fine if he had been hurt right away, but he wasn't. he was pushed, fell down, looked up with no problem at all, before suddenly acting dead. That was clearly an embellishment. It wasn't as unsportsmanlike as the push itself, but it was definately up there.

This post is a perfect example of how big of a negative impact ronaldo has on people.

Yes I remember him. Was signaling a dive multiple times while a player was down on the ice injured.

I really believe Sweden would have won gold if not for this guy.

Of come on.. Look video @ OP again.. He goes down right after blocking the shot.. Then get's up, just to be pushed by Backlund..

"Push back" Really.. try to do that with only one leg..

Good decision. I am a little conflicted about Grönborg. On one hand I want him gone because he is completely ridiculous guy who screams that he's gonna kill people, throws bottles and does dive-signs at injured players. But on the other hand he really does spice up the game.

And notice how after going down, he looks towards the center ice, then goes back to squirming in pain. Blatant embellishment! :shakehead

Znarok said Plotnikov was playing with injury. So maybe it was diving, maybe not.

For sure. I think his fire is a valuable asset to any Swedish national team. He just needs to learn to manage it better. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for him.

Guess the suspension didn't stop the russian coach:laugh:

I'm sorry but how could someone be so stupid? Even when cheating why would you be so obvious? Their embarrassing the whole team.
