Coachella Valley Phoenix is my wild guess.

Seems like there will be an announced about the AHL team on November 5th.


Leiweke supposedly said that we're close to a name.
Looking at that short video there's fire everywhere, they talk about it getting hot and there's a bird sound near the end.

So my guess it's going to be Firebirds.

Call them the baby squids ..

I have to say though, putting an AHL team so close to another NHL market seems weird,

I’m not sure what your point is. Hockey in SoCal was consistently busy before COVID. The Gulls were one of the best selling AHL teams in the league and Palm Springs is seeing huge development and population growth. Not to mention the amount of transplants that have winter homes there.

I don't mind those Jerseys but they don't really match our franchise in terms of theme or color.

Ya, the only similarity is the stripes, with the baby blue on theirs, replicating the Krakens red stripe to mimic the water line on a ferry boat.

Bakersfield and Palm Springs are actually closer to LA than San Diego, not that it really matters to anyone unless they get paid by the mile.

According to Francis the Firebirds will start in Seattle and might even play at Climate Pledge Arena until their rink is finished.


BTW: Shouldn't we rename this thread or maybe create a new one for the team?

Makes sense.
Very good AHL guy that can be called up and play some minutes in the bottom six.

The contract can also be fully "hidden" in the AHL and won't count against the cap if he's playing in the AHL.
