GDT: Club/Mammoth/Outlaws @ Ovechkins Fibula 12:30 EST

Does anyone else get the vibe that this team doesn't practice for or care about the shootout? Every attempt they've had this year has seemed... lackadaisical to me. Coming in slow, not a lot of stickhandling, then snapping off a wrister from 15 ft out.

And honestly, if that's their choice I kinda get it. Practice time and energy is limited, they only have a SO once every 15-20 games or so, they've known they aren't gonna be scrapping for a playoff spot for a while now, and it doesn't matter for the playoffs. Just frustrating because I hate the SO to begin with and this year their SOs are just about unwatchable.

Yes it looks like someone told them "it's all luck anyway so just shoot" or something.

Or maybe they don't want missed SO shots getting in the heads of the Caps goaltenders in practice.

Whatever they're doing, they should do the opposite.

Better to rally for the one pt but it should never have been at that point. Continually play down against not so good teams. Yeah, they won't see any 'bad' teams in the playoffs but it's a wart on the season.

I get the critics for OT, but todays choices im fine with. Ovie had a good game and he was buzzing the first shift at OT, dont mind throwing him there again. And he did serve Chych the chance to finish it after all. Strome was obvious.

Protas and Dubois were and are our best puck possession AND defensive forwards so they are obvious. Willy had 2 goals. They rolled with the guys who had the best 60 minutes and im fine with it. And we were by far the better team in OT too, had two grade A chances to finish it vs their none.

SO… meh. Protas-Dubois-Strome, again were the three hot player tonight. They all whiffed but, whatever.

We had trouble with the forecheck and fast turnarounds, but our cycle was good. We propably would have had this one if Ingram stays in the net. Vejmelka was so calm, he gave Utah loads of confidence.

Nice to get away with a point from a game that started the way this did.. happy 4 nations :)

Not really. The Caps are 1 point behind the Jets with a game in hand, for the top team in the NHL. The team hasn't been playing their best of late, and Carbs/Assistants will make sure the players know some little bad habits are creeping into their game. 2 weeks off is good for the whole team. None of the roster is playing in the joke 4-Nations NHL PR showcase. We don't have to worry about any of ours players sustaining an injury. In most normal NHL seasons you don't get a long break like this. 1st week the players probably will do nothing and then in 2nd week they will get engaged with coaches for some good hard practices.

I kinda don't mind going into the break on a loss. Hopefully they don't show up after the break out of shape.
