Going to see him tonight, super excited

I can either watch my hometown OHL team & favourite prospect go for their fifth straight win...

...or watch the Sabres score one goal and get pounded. Sad part is I still probably will choose the Sabres.

How much of Pu's success can be attributed to max jones?

They certainly have great chemistry together, but Pu continued scoring at a high rate without Jones. He did continue to play on a line with Janne Kuokannen, 2nd rounder from last year's draft who has 22 points in 10 games. Similar to the Tkachuk-Dvorak-Marner line last year, all three players have played great individually and as a unit.

Jones' success thus far can be attributed to Pu's as much as Pu's success can be attributed to Jones, IMO.

It should be said that other non-1st round picks from last year's draft are currently tearing up the O as well, including Mascherin, DeBrincat, Raddysh (all 2nd round picks). A lot of the OHL's top offensive players have left the league, allowing room for other guys to step up.

2 goals today. 17 game streak. 16-21-37 in 19 games. He's found the scoresheet in all but one game this season. The consistency of sitting a just a shade under 2 ppg without having a couple 5 point Nights and then a week off the sheet is impressive to me.

Looked incredible tonight, amazing goal as well, didn't play much of the 2nd and 3rd period as the were destroying Niagara. Honestly he can do everything and does it well, although it wasn't against good competition at all. He will be a nice, ELC replacement in a couple years.

What makes him so intriguing is that he was so hard to guage going into the draft because he was stuck behind those other guys. So it's not exactly like he underperformed he just didn't have the opportunities. Now he does and so far it's best case scenario all the way. Another year in the ohl next year, head to Rochester after that. He's got a lot to be excited about down the line and no rush for anything but development at the right levels.

I don't agree, though it depends on what you were looking for last year. He wasn't in position to rack up uber points in his situation, but he stood out to me consistently each and every time I saw him, practically every shift. He combined a high-rev engine with subtle but distinct skill, smart two-way play, and great skating. This is what you look for with kids in those situations and he had it from what I saw. True it's still just projecting (and I have my share of misses), but I almost fell off my chair when I saw we'd picked him. I assumed he'd easily be gone WELL before the 3rd. I didn't predict this much production this year necessarily, but I'm not at all surprised. As mentioned, let him develop naturally and see how far he can progress. This is no fluke or circumstantial OHL number padding. He's the real deal. I don't want to get too giddy too soon, but regardless this was a great pick.

I agree, I said the same thing last year. It was easy to see he was going to have a big year this year.

Sounds great, but....

There are no assurances this will translate to the NHL

there's nothing wrong with an energy guy having a reputation of being hard-working and also managing to find the back of the net consistently. better than the energy guys who are huge, but don't stand out other than their size and rarely find the back of the net.

but remember, steve ott tore it up in the OHL too.

Obviously? Who is saying this kid is going to be a sure fire NHLer? Just be happy that he's doing good things. It means there's a chance.

Steve Ott has had a 15 year NHL career. You say it like its a bad thing. What percentage of 3rd rounders have that kind of career? 5%? Less?

it'd be great, just don't want people to be slotting him into any future top-6s unless he posts these numbers in the AHL too

If a 3rd rounder turns into Ott I'd be thrilled.

Statistically-speaking, Pu's 1.95 P/GP is extremely good for an 18-y/o OHL prospect, and FWIW, looks to be sixth all-time at present. While a difficult task, keeping that pace over the next 46 GP would project to 128.7 points, or third all-time among 18-y/o OHL prospects. Pu's excellent start and point streak means that he can dip to a 1.33 P/GP pace over the last 46 GP and still hit 100+ points, barring any time missed.

As a Leafs fan, it upsets me we didn't take a shot at this kid. He's part of the London system with Hunter, should have been a no-brainer pick.

Edit: Did not realize I was on the Sabres board, hey Sabres fans!

Ott was at 1.58 pts/gm while Pu is almost at 2.

While pu gets some help from max jones, Ott also had pretty good teammate in Jason Spezza, who I think did alright in the NHL.
