What do fans of both teams and neutral fans think of this one ? :

CLB receives :

16th ovr pick
17th ovr pick

MON receives :

14th ovr pick
20th ovr pick

I believe CLB would love to leave the floor with the best goalie available at this year's draft, Joshua Ravensbergen, but the Saint-Louis Blues (SAI) might snag him at 19th, as they haven't drafted one in a while, Binnington is not getting younger and their future isn't that bright at this position. CLB secures the goalie at 17th and pick a guy that might have fallen on their lap anyway at 14, or a good consolation prize.

Meanwhile, MON targets Carbonneau as a very good piece for the future, a good complement for the actual top-6, has size, compete, a shot... and VAN could also snag him from one rank at 15. At 20, MON gets a solid guy as well, maybe a Cole Reschny if they decide to bank on upside, or a faller among Lakovic, Bear, Hensler, or maybe Spence or Fiddler.

Thank you! :)

Montreal will be looking for a center. If Martin still there at 14 they may do it. Take Spence at 20. Or maybe Bear at 14. Take Cootes at 20.

All depends on who wants who.

From a draft equity standpoint, it seems fair. Just from a math standpoint, 16+17 = 33 and 14+20 = 34...and you always, always pay somewhat of a premium to move up to the top pick.

So yeah - it just depends on targets on draft day and how the draft unfolds. This is the kind of deal that would happen right before the pick. There's little point in either team doing it now though without seeing the draft board.

I should hve specified, in my mind, that happens at the draft, and what you bring is indeed essential for such a scenario to happen!

If there’s a player the Habs really want available at 14, they probably do it if they feel #15 will pick him. Teams have a pretty good idea of who other teams value. Scouts talk and they see what teams are doing extra scouting at certain draft eligible players games. It’s one reason why you see trade ups happen a lot on draft day.

I’d do it as a Habs fan, for Jackets the wild card will be what happens to 15OA, Vancouver is likely trading this pick, would suck to trade back and miss their player, better off just taking him at 14 if they for sure want a goalie.

There's no reason to do this. Waddell has already all but said he's going to be aggressive this off-season. If we're trading those picks, it's gonna be in a package for a roster player, not other picks.

Most CBJ fans probably don't think we'll making two picks in the first round.

I don't think it happens now or at the draft. Value is fair but...

Owners probably look at the picks their GM trades away and what becomes of those picks. I doubt many GM worry as much about how owners view them using their own picks.

Trading involves risk of losing the deal.
Drafting involves risking nothing.

It's a fair deal but we have no idea who the teams want. Neither team is really pressed to draft for need right now.

Half the league is saying their team is trading their pick for immediate upgrades. Who is on the other side of all of those deals?

From MTL perspective = Definitely
I'd much rather move up two spots from 16 to 14 and have access to a better player if the costs is only moving back 3 spots 17 to 20 a bit later.

Really hard to tell without knowing who goes top 13. I mean, by the 11-12th pick we should have a very good idea, but I'd only do it then
