Player Discussion Claude Giroux

Major dip in production... He had 18 goals, 35 assists (53 points) after 62 games last season. Only 12 goals, 27 assists (39 points) through 62 games this season.

Now, I know he's probably slowed down a little bit, but 14 points is pretty big for Claude. Is it strictly age? Different system/coaching?

He's averaging 2:31 PP time per game, as opposed to his 2:59 last season. He's likely to have similar numbers on the PP this season. He's averaging 1:18 less overall ice time per game too.

Thoughts on bringing him back? What would the contract would look like? I'd be okay bringing him back on a 2 year, 4-4.5 hometown discount.

I think G still has gas in the tank for a few more seasons (assuming he wants it). It's been a down year offensively for just about every player on the team (Sanderson maybe the only exception).

Hopefully next year they're more consistent with point production and we don't have these long stretches of anemic offense. G would have to agree to something like 2 years @ 4. That would be a solid deal for both sides.

Age and new baby will do that to you
May comeback for one more year and be 2023-4 Claude

If he was the only one, I would agree. Given the entire team is having a down year offensively, I think his drop in production has to be taken in context.

He remains one of the best passers and smartest players on the team and his FO prowess combined with PK ability (high IQ) is important.

The biggest question is how much does he cost? If he is willing to take a home town discount to ensure we can surround him with the best team, it is a no-brainer to bring him back.

Isn't the entire NHL down in goals this yr, I think it's league wide? I bet they sign Giroux on a 2 yr deal @$2.5 mil.

2 x 5.

He provides scoring, faceoffs, PK, and Leadership. I would give him the extra $1.5M just for his leadership alone. You look at Buffalo and all they are talking about is no veteran leaders, let alone a leader of Giroux's calber.

I think we can all see CG has regressed alot in the last couple of years. If he's not winning the majority of his faceoffs ( he's not) how valuable is he? Do you bring him back next year?

I’d do one year term max. If he insists on two you let him go.

The great news is, we will be able to use that 6.5 on a hell of a talent.

Zetterlund will replace Perron and we will have 8 million to add a legit top talent alongside Stutzle.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Ehlers(example)
Zetterlund-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Greig

That's a great top 9 going into next year. Try to see if you can trade Batherson for Peterka or Terry.
