3 mill

It's still more than fair considering how he's playing not to mention he lacks a cup and should sacrifice a million for for a better chance at one.

Claude is eligible for performance bonuses due to his age. I am very confident that we could get him for no more than $3m cap hit next year if need be, and its feasible we get him as low as $1m if we really need the room.

Personally, I'm offering him a basement salary with a $1-2m bonus for playing 10 games. Then additional bonuses for hitting offensive benchmarks like 20+ goals or 50+ points.

The Sens need to replace Giroux if not for next season than the following, but its coming fast. IMO Staois should make a play for Brock Boeser RW who used to be coached by Travis Green before re-signing Giroux, if he wants to come back.

If by some miracle Boeser agrees to come here regardless for the amount, I assume they will use the reduction in Giroux's salary, not re-signing Forsberg, Gregor, Hamonic & finding a way to move Perron & his salary to help pay for Boeser.

The sens need a new top 6 forward but Giroux would be fine being on the the third line. Injuries happen so he is a great insurance policy in that event

Absolutly
But we most likely can't afford a 6.5MM$ 3rd liner
That money and more needs to go to that new top 6 forward

I agree, but he's 37 yrs old & it's quite possible he doesn't return, but if he does it would likely be for one yr on a much reduced contract. Brock Boeser RW is in his prime & will likely be in the NHl for another 5 yrs or more & an excellent replacement. Why wouldn't we want him & if he would sign him there is nothing stopping us from going back to Giroux to re-sign at a cheaper amount.

I dont think any team will be giving Giroux 6.5. Ottawa should be able to get him slightly below market value and can probably add an extra year to the term to make all sides happy. 2years 4M

2025-26 5M (40-60pts)
2026-27 3M (30-45pts)

Would definitely beat the value Perron is providing.

I doubt Giroux plays anywhere else other than Ott if he decides to play another yr. However, I would use his money along with Forsberg money to acquire a GOOD RW free agent such as Boeser who is in his prime as a Giroux replacement. If they can sign Boeser than I would go back to offer Giroux a one yr contract at a substantially reduced cost if they can afford it.

Giroux isn't making a penny less than $4 million as long as Perron's still on the roster. Giroux has taken a step back, but it'll be hard to convince him to take $3 million. Even if he's declining, his ay will probably be better than Perron's. 2 years at $4 million aav is probably the cheapest he'll get.

Perron & his contract is a problem Staois needs to clean up, it doesn't mean he can't come back & contribute in the second half of the season, but so far this has been a bad signing at an expensive cost & he has another yr, that's the real problem.

Perron buyout numbers would be 1.3M for the next two seasons. Potentially an option to explore, especially if the salary cap goes up more than expected

The guy played 9 games and we've already decided he's a buyout candidate?

If the issue is his health, there's no way you buy him out since he'd just appeal saying he needs surgery for his back, if it's performance, Idk if 9 games where the underlying numbers were great but the line wasn't finishing it's chances while Pinto was snakebit really justifies a buyout.

He'll likely be back in the lineup soon, he's shed the non-contact jersey, and has been practicing with the team, lets see how he does.

He's on pace for 52 pts on a team that prioritizes Defense, is a faceoff demon and a plus player, you aren't getting that for 2.5 mil.

he gets good ice time with good players for that kind of production, which is the very place we need to upgrade because he is slowing those players down.

he is also progressively getting worse so who knows next year when he is 38. can't be paying him 4 mill in future value for that.

plus his career earnings seem to be 98 million so far. gotta convince him to take a discount for a cup.

We haven’t decided anything. I said its “Potentially an option to explore”. There are obviously a few factors that will have to be taken into consideration and its way too early to say one way or another based on the minuscule sample size.

He’s about to turn 37. If he comes back and plays at the level we hope he can then obviously there would not be a need to discuss buying him out. If he doesn’t tho, although not ideal, a buyout could be an option as the numbers are palatable.

I don't care how good his linemates are, your 2.5 mil suggestion is absurd, it's simply not going to happen.

So, we sign a guy start considering buying him out before he plays 10 games, great. Seems wildly early to be pondering that just yet is all.

That’s fine, you can feel that way

seems crazy early to me is all. I also think from a practical perspective it's not realistic, as if he does in fact have a slipped disc that they've decided to rehab rather than get surgery, he can likely prevent any buyout by getting surgery to clean it up in the offseason.

Add to that how bad a look buying someone out would be to any future UFA we look to acquire, and it just seems highly unlikely.
