With another dismal November in the books in Ottawa midnight is fast approaching on Steve Staios and Claude Giroux to make a decision on next year. If he isn't willing to resign and if Ottawa doesn't go on a streak soon Staios will have no choice but to recoup some value. Point totals slightly down but he is the same Giroux everyone knows and loves, just about as valuable as ever for a playoff run.

People will say Ottawa's needs are limited to a young winger with top 6 potential but a bigger shakeup could be in order which means just about anything will be considered.

What are teams offering?

Didn't he pick Ottawa cause it was close to home? Does he even want to go for a Cup anymore?
Maybe he doesn't want to go anywhere and maybe Staios respects that but the old guard brought him in and investing in the future might supersede catering to his wishes. Or he goes for a run and resigns in the summer.

Sorry, fair. Assume he's willing to waive.
If he has to waive, you’re not getting the return you want (see Patrick Kane to NYR).

If, as another poster said, he wants to stay close to Ottawa, I’d offer Nick Robertson + a 2nd/3rd from the Leafs.

I could see a world where Dallas aim to add a player to their top-9 (and a top-4 RD) to push Dadonov further down the lineup. Giroux would be a great piece to slot next to Hintz and Robertson.

Robertson-Hintz-Giroux
Marchment-Duchene-Seguin
Benn-Johnston-Stankoven
Dadonov-Steel-Bourque

If he decides to waive his NMC, it'll be to a team in the East and the return will be Tarasenko-esque.

So... back to Florida or maybe Carolina for a 3rd.

If I'm Ottawa, why even bother?

Or see Claude Giroux to FLA.

The Flyers got Owen Tippett... pretty solid return for a rental.

Tippett blows.

He scored 25+ goals both years in Philly. That's much better than a 3rd round pick, and a pretty good return for a veteran rental.

It's much more than Ottawa will get if Giroux is dealt at the TDL this year.

I’d trade for giroux for a 3rd as others have offered that

Ottawa probably laughs at Toronto for even asking though

I would hope Tampa would have some interest. a glaring need is a right handed middle 6 forward/PP guy. if Tampa could get double retention we have some middling prospects and a couple of draft picks this year as well.

Of course it is. Ottawa would get a lot more if they were trading three years younger Giroux, too.

That said, if he agrees to go, I hope the Sens get something worthwhile in the deal, and that he returns to either Ottawa or Philadelphia in the offseason.

Not sure why he wouldn't waive for Toronto. If being close to home is priority for him, why not want to be in TO? He's already in a Canadian market. Unless he doesn't want playoff pressure?

I imagine his goal would be to play more than one playoff round.

But it’s also been reported that he’s a hyper competitive guy who doesn’t like the idea of jumping ship to his team’s rivals. So when Philly was shopping him, he said no to New York and Boston.

If he asks to be moved I bet it’s back Florida or nothing.

Ottawa would get a 3rd back, like they did with Tarasenko.

If Ottawa is willing to retain 50% and take back a roster player for salary I think he'd be great in NJ. Scoring depth, C/W flex, can take faceoffs, good on special teams.

Something like Conditional 2nd + Nate Bastian for Giroux + 5th or whatever? The condition being NJ wins a playoff round and Giroux plays 70% or whatever of their playoff games = NJ sends WIN's 2nd 2025, if conditions aren't met then it's NJ's 3rd 2025.
