I'm just honestly surprised they're giving him a chance to win a spot at all.

I mean, why not? That said, I get what you are coming from.

This is not a Blake draft pick: he's just the 51st overall guy from the 2016 draft. Not that he's complete garbage or anything, but his status was elevated by Kings fans because the pipeline was so barren.

Now there are so many prospects that the 35th pick in the 2020 draft (Grans) is probably not going to be in the Top 10 of the current prospect listing poll.

Clague looked pretty good in his stint with the Kings. 17 minutes TOI per game in 18 games. You know who also looked good in his stint was Austin Strand. Obviously, small sample size for both. However, neither looked out of place when given extended runs of opportunity. Maatta and Macdermid were trotted out there repeatedly even though neither looked as good to put it kindly. Now, extenuating circumstances for expansion draft eligibility and a combination with waiver exemptions helped make these decisions on who to ice etc. But what's scary is maybe TMc is who ultimately made the call and he's just bad at mixing and matching personnel. Frankly, by judging what was happening with the forward lines, I'm leaning towards his poor decision making. Thankfully Macdermid being selected in the expansion draft at least removes that temptation from his list of options. I don't care how good of a locker room guy Mac was, he was terrible and cost the Kings games. He did a lot of damage in his limited ice time. But what's done is done and the end result was Brandt Clarke in the draft, so silver lining there.

That too, but I think they dicked him around a bit too, but more a victim of circumstance and waivers.

Every time he was on the verge of making it, he got hurt or things changed.

If he was being a pissy little bitch as rumored after being sent down I sort of get it but I just get the vibe that the org doesn't really care for him much anyway. I don't think he's got runaway ability or anything, I just don't think he's gotten a fair shake in any stretch of games to really establish himself. He looked like a beast that game when everyone got hurt and he had to play a bunch of minutes next to Drew, then it was all downhill from there for his usage.

But as mentioned above, I could also be being a little sensitive to Clague and Strand being buried in favor of MacDermid

I find it amusing that the Kings PR is fluffing these up, when in reality the kids just signed their QO.

Strand and Clague are just depth. Both probably hope they get picked off waivers so they can actually be on an NHL roster for 30 days.

Moverare will be the litmus test. Kings like him best of the pool of AHL guys last season, as mentioned by Dilman and Hoven.

Buried in favor of a guy that was selected over them in the ED and then drew a 4th round pick. You put respect on that name!

1 way or two way means nothing to the Kings, just AEG. It just determines his salary if he's assigned to the minors. And the value is so low, it wouldn't affect the cap if he does get assigned.

Like always, it's about earning the spot. So far, Anderson and Bjornfot have earned it. It may reach a point where he doesn't have to outplay them, but just play well enough to earn a position so one of them can be sent to Ontario, given they're waiver exempt.

Anderson isn't going to Ontario. He's spent two years playing first pairing minutes on a total shit team and ended up a +4 in over 20 minutes per game.

He just gives me LaDue vibes, I want to be wrong on that though.

Very much so and I was similarly bullish on him getting a chance that he never got either. And in both situations each guy showed offensive ability that we were missing on the back end (and at least passable defense) only to get benched anyway.

In the end it probably doesn't matter much I just don't like when a guy shows something then promptly gets buried for apparently no reason. But LaDue never caught on anywhere to, so might it be with Clague. I'm not ride or die for him or anything, there's just something weird about the whole situation.

I still have faith in Clague. I thought the last stretch of games he played with the big club were impressive. I want him to get a proper run with the Kings. Put him on the roster and give him the first 20 games and see if he's shown anything.

Clague always seems to suck during exhibition games. Somehow racks up at least one instance of overstating the puck or just mishandling it with no pressure. It’s like he takes the whole summer off and shows up at camp as if he hadn’t handled a puck in four months.

Sometimes you have to throw a player into the NHL even when you think they haven't come along sufficiently in the AHL yet.

Kempe wasn't doing much in the AHL when the Kings decided to make him a full time NHLer.

With Clague's contractual status, age and pedigree, he may hold decent trade value.

Everytime i saw a defender stickhandle and move the puck, I checked his number and it was Clague.

I actually liked what I saw.
He had the highest 5v5 P/60 of any Dman on the team:

It's going to be another Hickey situation if he doesn't take another step. The onus is on Clague to break through or he is going to find himself on waivers as a journeyman chasing a 6-7 job elsewhere.

Obviously, the team is overcrowded for some of these prospects so it's going to be do-or-die for a lot of them. It is unfortunate that some aren't getting much ice time, but you hope and have to believe that there's a reason for it based on what the coaching staff sees behind the scenes... With Doughty, Edler, Maata, Roy, Walker, Anderson, Bjornfot, and Wolanin all ahead, it is going to be very slim pickings for the likes of Clague, Strand, and Durzi to find their foothold. This is going to be a make-or-break training camp and year for them.

The dream is to survive the year and promote one or two of them into Edler's or Maata's spots, assuming Edler isn't re-signed and Clarke doesn't come in and burn the plan down in dominance or anything.

Alec Martinez without the shot blocking. High event player, as in lots of scoring happens when he’s on the ice. For and against. Should be fun if he makes the team.
