Who would you rather have

Dvorak - 26 yrs old - 33 pts in 56 games - signed 3 more years @ 4.45M
Kotkaniemi - 21 yrs old - 29 pts in 66 games - signed for 8 more years @ 4.82M

Dvorak is still the better player but we very well have seen the best of him. The length is reasonable and the end of his contract will likely coincide with him slowing down.

Kotkaniemi is younger, has a better upside and can become a regular point producer for a long time. But 8 years is a scary length and if that project doesn't pan out he will be hard to move.

If I'm a contender I take Dvorak. If I'm rebuilding I take Kotkaniemi. I'm a Habs fan so I went with KK.

8 years at 4.8 is bad if Kotkaniemi never develops, but it is not a disaster and I think it was a risk worth taking.

Kotkaniemi

Dvorak.

He many not be a world-beater but he proved he can be a good, versatile and productive player. He will still have value near the end of his contract so he can be flipped for a few picks at that time. His number this season have alse been affected by his injuries and playing on a tea, that broke the record for injuries in a season.

KK after three years still hasn't progressed much as a hockey player. He would have gotten eaten alive in Dvorak's place on the Habs this season and hasn't earned his way up any lineup in Montreal or Carolina. If not for his draft position there is absolutely no way that he would have gotten that contract. Through four games he certainly doesn't have very good playoffs stats for the Canes either.

KK is being paid 6M this year and almost 5M per at least for the next few years only to be used as a 4th liner. Seems like an awful waste of resources with a flat-cap situation.

What does the bolded even mean? You say shit like that when there isn’t anything good to say.

Christian Dvorak is no different from a guy like Colin White. He’s a good, not great player that is overpaid for what he brings.

Kotka is already just as good as Dvorak and he is only 21 with tons of room to grow.

What are you basing that comparison on? I don't know White that well, but from what I've seen of him, he plays a fairly different style of game.

Kotkaniemi very, very easily. We had Danault and let him walk so they bring in this cadaver Dvorak. Slow, vanilla, so-so defensively, hands of stone but, good in th FO circle. Everything you would want in a player for whom we gave up a 1st AND 2nd rounder smfh.

The Dvorak fanboys were predicting 60-70 points for a guy who's been a career 30-35 pointer

I'll take Dvorak with these contracts.
Under MSL he played C better than Kotkaniemi ever will. In few years he's gone and this years PPG is 0,59, AKA 48 pts per full season. Right what was expected from him.
One the other hand, Kotkaniemi is steadily regressing and after 4 seasons he finds himself at the bottom of the roster. Yeah, there is still a chance a miracle will happen and Kotkaniemi learns to play properly, but as time passes the chences are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Hab’s drafting Wright will finally be the end of this KK debacle! Hab’s will finally draft a real centre and have real depth down the middle

Where’s the neither option?

Wouldn’t have given those picks for Kotkaniemi and wouldn’t have traded them for Dvorak.

How about a 'Neither' option, or a "Danault" option?

Danault is definately better than either of them. But Dvorak is getting underrated here. He is a good player, and definately fills a role on a team. Kotkaniemi seems almost useless whenever I've seen Carolina.
