Guhle's a LD. Barron's likely best off beginning next season in Laval. Nevertheless Wideman buys us time for the youngsters at a low cost investment.

Wideman's a 3rd pairing / 7th dman on the right side. There will be injuries.

Wideman averaged 14 min a game. He’s a 3rd pair vet who can QB the 2nd PP. if a young guy wants to break through, he’ll most likely be tried in a top 4 role like Barron was before his injury

If kids outplay him he'll being sitting in the press box anyways. Also if there ends up being no room for him he can just be sent to Laval to help them and it won't count on our cap.

He's getting about a hair above league minimum. He won't be blocking the kids. He's a low cost depth piece on the right side who allows us to transition to the kids when they're ready.

Wideman isn't replacing Petry, the team will be bottom 10 without having to do something as drastic as that.

If he plays, it's because Barron is not ready. So there's that. If Barron is ready, he will not play all 82 games. Rookies rarely do except for talented exceptions. Wideman is here as a stop gap in case Petry is traded or as a 7th D. His salary proves it.

At that price, mostly means he'S painted as the #6-#7 in and out of the line-up D-men which is allright
