Good move, heard good things from him locker-room wise. Also with this salary, easily tradable at deadline for assets.

What I really like is there’s no ambiguity that HuGo are going for turbo tank.
Who does that leave us for next year? Romanov, wideman, savard, edmunson, petry? Does seem to suggest they found a home for petry doesn’t it? I’d assume they bring in two rookie defenseman next year

Hopefully this doesn't prevent Ghule and Barron from getting lots of ice time

If anything it prevents them from getting rushed into the league.

Wideman averaged 14 min a game. He’s a 3rd pair vet who can QB the 2nd PP. if a young guy wants to break through, he’ll most likely be tried in a top 4 role like Barron was before his injury

Not a fan, I'd rather have the kids play. This guy blows.
He's getting about a hair above league minimum. He won't be blocking the kids. He's a low cost depth piece on the right side who allows us to transition to the kids when they're ready.

How can you understand it and wonder if he will take the spot of a young Dmen ?
Do you have a crystal ball? You know how he's going to be used next year?

We could've given Romanov a try on the powerplay but because this guy was there, it never happened.

I thought 2 years was totally uncalled for, but then I saw it was for less than 800K, so, wtv.

Fair enough for me, even if the actual upside is "Not starting next season with three rookie D's in the Top-6"

Because Dom will play him over the kids. Oh wait...

...Actually, you want him playing over a kid. Harris, Barron and Guhle won't all start next season in the NHL, that's way too many rookies (on D) at the same time.
And it's also a better plan than signing a more expensive players for a longer term than won't actually be better, like, I dunno, a bought-out Jake Gardiner or something.

Wideman isn't replacing Petry, the team will be bottom 10 without having to do something as drastic as that. :sarcasm:

If he plays, it's because Barron is not ready. So there's that. If Barron is ready, he will not play all 82 games. Rookies rarely do except for talented exceptions. Wideman is here as a stop gap in case Petry is traded or as a 7th D. His salary proves it.

With that amount tied to him......I suddenly don't mind that much that contract.
At that price, mostly means he'S painted as the #6-#7 in and out of the line-up D-men which is allright
