Nilan talked about this fight recently and it's on his YouTube channel.Nilan was a smart fighter and didn't lose too many one-sided ones like that.
McClelland came out of his jersey and took advantage of it.
One of my first games I ever went to Nilan fought Curt Fraser. It wasn't much of a fight (I think Nilan tied him up and made it more of a wrestling match)...
...anyways they left the ice, raced to meet in the concourse, and continued the fight.
Most everyone in the old Coliseum had no idea what was going on except you could tell something big was amiss by the fans that were fortunate enough to be seated where they could see down the tunnels were all freaking out.

Never heard of Wes George.Great story. I hadn’t heard of that one. Fraser was very tough, had one of if not the nicest compact knockout punches. I think he might have had one of the highest KO ratios ever up to Boogy.
The brawl in the back reminds me of back in the day in the Dub. Semenko used to be the tough guy for Brandon and Wes George was the HW in Saskatoon. One night George got the better of Sammy and dropped Cement with a great shot. Semenko was infuriated and they fought again in the tunnel between the dressing rooms. They had a great rivalry.
Never heard of Wes George.
Must looked him up. Semenko type size and it looked like he could play the game well enough in his rookie pro season…but then he kind of just disappeared.
That’s what I was thinking it must have been bc in his first pro season he didn’t play a lot of hockey and had scored 4 goals and 6 points in 9 games with Indy in the WHA…Wes and Semenko fought allot back then and as I recall from folklord they were evenly matched. Wes ended up getting derailed by a health issue of some sort If my memory serves me right (far from a given)![]()
McClelland got his when Ewen was a Hab and totally destroyed him
Well that's part of life getting concussions and so on in a big contact sportSadly Ewen passed way too young (49) from suicide that was somewhat controversial because initially the first Dr said he didn't have CTE (often caused by blows to the head) but his wife Kelli pushed for a second opinion:
"The findings in 2016 were without a doubt shocking and now there is also no longer any doubt that those findings were also flat out wrong. According to the Times report Kelli simply could not believe that her husband had not suffered from the disease and for that reason she asked that his brain tissue be sent to doctors at Boston University’s C.T.E. Center. To her shock those result came back positive for signs of CTE so the tissue was sent to the Mayo Clinic, this time anonymously, and again the result came back positive for C.T.E."
Really sad some of this eras heavyweights started having terrible side effects from the fighting.
Always liked Ewen real stand up guy who fought for his teammatesWell that's part of life getting concussions and so on in a big contact sport
