Couldn't find a Chris Neil thread to post this on but I came across an awesome video on YT

Great vid and Great music! Even though his play has deteriorated somewhat he's still one of my fav Sens players of all time and has given alot to our team over the years. Enjoy.

Curious to see what happens with Neil. He's been a warrior for this team since the turn of the century, will he be happy with a diminished role and scratches? He's still a capable player.

I'd hate to see him wearing any other jersey.

If we're really not a playoff team this year (and we aren't), we owe it to Neil to find an actual playoff contender to send him to for one last cup chase, assuming of course that he wants that opportunity... and by "a team", I of course mean "a Western team", far far away, where we don't have to play against him.

Neil brings his A+ game in the playoffs, and we aren't really in a position to benefit from that. He's done right by the team and the city, he's earned the right for another cup run if he wants it, IMO.

Wouldnt mind keeping him or seeing him go. 4 goals was good for how the bottom 6 was doing. I think iots hard to argue he hasnt bled more for this organization then any other player in the history of the team.( i know he also did it to stay in the nhl and make millions) Guy has also shown incredible loyalty to the sens by leaving offers from i believe Minnesota and New York on the table and taking less money. Maybe he only left 3 mil on the table but thats still a ton of a lot of money over his career. If Neil wants an opportunity at the cup trade him to a contender. I think Murray should seriously sit down and have the conversation with him at least.

On a side note.... People have always said Neil was a leader but hes also had quite a few fights with teammates over his time here. Fighting Cowen, Mcgratten and Emery.

Neil is the player I'd want to retire a Senator. However he is nearing 36 and he must understand he can't play as many minutes as he use to. Despite that he should still get about 5-10 minutes a game I'd say, but in the right situations.

I honestly could't be more happier for Neiler after that game.

I agree, if he wants it the team should move him to a contender. Who knows if he does though. Same goes for Phillips.

He has a year and a half on his contract, but could have another year in him after that

i hope so. Loved the guy when i was in my teens and you have to think 1000 games for him is like 2000 games for any other player. Would be pretty cool to put him on the short list of enforcers to reach the 1000 game mark. He wouldnt just be a historic player in terms of being a senator but a historic guy in terms of the best enforcers of all time.

Yeah, it would be awesome to have three guys from early in our history hit 1000 games with the same team. I also think 1000 games with the Sens should guarantee a number retirement. Even though it won't be all the best players they would have had to make a positive impact for a long time to get to 1000.

Unfortunately for Neil he can only afford to miss 3 games on his contract to get to 1000 without signing a new one. Had his current injury not been suffered game number 900 would have been Wednesday's game against the Leafs.

I don't think Neil has anything to offer of which other teams are interested. I hope he'd be happy w/ a diminished role + scratches as Spoonz said.

Get what you can for the Neiler and move forward. He still has some value to playoff bound teams and could be effective for a short term. Ottawa is in a state of transition and even the game itself has changed. An overpaid enforcer may still have value to other teams so in the end get something while the gettin is good! This is a business after all....loyalty is out the window

Love Neil. Would be great if he could get a shot at the cup with a contender. Somewhere in the West.

To be fair, two of those three were guys moved for character issues... Maybe they just needed some straightening out.

Speaking of which. Does anyone know when he's supposed to be back?
Looks like he's taking practice and is now considered day-to-day, possibility he plays before the All-Star break.

Going to replace some younger developing player. Does this cost Pageau, Lazar, Condra, etc playing time - yes, it will.

Get what you can for him and move on. He has earned that respect at least. He o longer fits the profile of what the team is working towards becoming.

Heart & Soul are not enough. And he has shown this season he is a step behind the play.

This is true. However, Neil has also had fights/altercations with Conacher, Redden, Spezza and Arvedson in practice.

Personally I'd like him to retire a Sen, unless of course he wants to chase the cup. I have a feeling he'd prefer the former, but I'm not in his head.

I think we should keep him to 1000 games, if that's what he wants.
People are overstating the decline in his game, he still gets around the ice well and can throw hits. He is such a technically sound hitter.
They should keep him around even if he's not playing much or getting scratched from time to time- again, if that's what he wants.

Agreed. I don't mind Neil as a 13th forward at all. Rotate him with Condra, Lazar and Chiasson.
