I personally believe in MacFarland.

But I want a complete house cleaning of coaching staff. Bednar is a good coach, not the best but decent but it's time for new voices and more than that new PK and PP plans.

I'm happy about the trade. Would still do it 10 times out of 10.

Mikko looked more motivated and engaged during the last few games than he has in years. Personally I think it's temporary and won't last.

I don’t agree with you. Rantanen was almost always good in important games for the Avs. But since you’re a Finn and you’re saying this, I’ll respect your answer. But there are a lot of obnoxious people who post here that aren’t deserving of the benefit of the doubt. And I still do think there are caveats regarding his agents tactics.

Yeah, feel free to disagree.

For the record, if Mikko signed with the Avs for something like 11-11,5M annually I would had preferred that. The way he was playing and asking 12-13M from the Avs.. it was too much for my liking. Hell, I have a Rantanen jersey and he was my favorite player for a long time.

Motivated Mikko is one of the best players in the league. He wasn't at a level he could had been for a long time. The last few games with the Stars, that's the Mikko I could had paid even 13M annually for. I just think we saw something that's not going to replicated very often in the future.

Love the pieces we got for him also. I really like Necas and though Bednar misused him (shoulda been 2nd line winger, not with Nate) and I'm a big fan of Drury on bottom 6C position.

I can respect this as your opinion. But also know, there were many who were extremely obnoxious with their "must trade Mikko" mantra. Those people need to face the firing squad...but they might disappear for a while.

CMac was the one who decided to trade Rants. So your ire should be directed at him if anyone. I don’t have a problem with others advocating that even if I disagree with their reasoning. I mean, I heard you guys screaming about RyJo, Mitts and Georgiev too.
 
Woke up wondering how differently I'd feel. The anger I felt towards CMac last night has moved into the unbridled rage territory. Guy went from universally beloved and envied as an assistant to hockey's Calvin Booth as GM. An absolute masterclass in how to f*** up a once-in-lifetime core.

I wasn't pounding the table to trade him (and I don't remember there being a strong chorus of voices here pushing for a trade before it happened), but I am also fine with the trade. Frankly, we hadn't seen this version of Mikko since the Tampa series, he was absolutely dogging it the last couple of seasons, and I can absolutely see why the Avs felt like signing him to a bloated retirement contract would hurt them as soon as next season. They got as good of a value out of him as you could hope for without gambling on futures (that we don't need).

There was a fairly sizeable contingent, I wish the avs would have changed coaches and seen what that did before losing rants. Can’t change any of it though. How to move forward is gonna be difficult. Priority one for me is Bednar needs to go. I liked him but he’s lost the room.

Cmac put us in the favorited to win the cup after a shot start. He’s done his job… albeit a major f*** up with rants. I’d keep him on a short leash but he stays as far as I’m concerned
 
Rantanen scorching Colorado's ass, IMO, is just the twisting of the knife. A huge part of it is how unimpactful his replacement, Necas, was. Another huge part of it is how downright useless Coyle and Nelson were.

Total chicken and egg situation because if those guys had been better, the Avalanche are moving on.

I still think trading Mikko was the right move. The shit he did for Dallas late in the series was the exact opposite of what he was doing here the last 2 years. Now we have Necas and Drury, who people are being way too hard on, for less than what Mikko will be making next year. Add in moving out Colton/Wood/Girard(?) for cap space and assets and the Avs can still be very competitive next season.

You’re basing his play solely on his salary. Sorry can’t get with that

Interesting to note, there are those here who think/thought Necas would see roughly the same salary as Mikko as early as this off season

How the hell else are you supposed to base it??? Players are (theoretically) paid based on performance lol.

As for your second paragraph, sure, when/if he gets the same or comparable salary as Mikko then compare them. Don’t lambaste him for theoreticals.

Why not? We don't hold any of our other players to the same standard as MacKinnon and Makar because they are paid the most and rightfully so.

You obviously will always stumble upon outliers. The Oilers didn't hold anyone to Milan Lucic's standard when they signed him to a huge deal because he was awful, for example, but most of the time salary paid = expectations and results.
 
At the same time, we always need to remember that this trade wasn’t to improve this season. It was to give the Avs a realistic window for the next 2-4 seasons.

Rantanen’s cap at 12+, along with Landeskogs return, the roster they would’ve been able to put together for the next couple of seasons would be so lacking in depth. And that would exasperate the Avs problem even more by forcing them to overplay their top players over and over and over again.

loc outplayed Necas, if youre gonna get rid of a core piece you don’t do it for a guy like Necas who got outplayed by Necas. I get it it was gonna be tight with a Mikko, Mack, makar roster, with the salary sky rocketing in the near future. It could be argued he wouldn’t have been over paid. Especially for a guy like Necas who’s probably gonna want at least 10-11 million.

Either way Colorado is out and we’re probably out of the contention window, doesn’t really matter.

Necas was outplayed by the entire 4th line. It could be argued loc would have been a better fit with Mack then necas
