if nothing else CMac has definitely grown a pair this year…

Dude's always had balls, he just oversleeps all the time

Balls of steel. He is active, ballsy and creative. Love to have him as our GM.

His photo in the media guide should just be a huge pair of nuts.

I'll give him until the trade deadline before shitting on him too badly, but the Avs are measurably worse today then they were yesterday.
After the Johansen debacle, Mittelstad not working out, and downgrading on Rants, I don't have much faith

I’m not sure I can even give him that long, this team is in a wildcard spot and trending in the wrong direction, he needs to do something now.

I swear people think that winning the cup is easy. And that salary caps and contracts don't exist. CMac inherited a "cup winning team" did he really? That team was lightning in a bottle. It was never staying together. There are cap casualties, there are players who move on, retire, get injured. Claiming that CMac inherited a cup winning team is disingenuous. Kadri wanted more than we were willing to pay, most here scoffed at his contract demands. Landy hasnt played since. NAK and Sturm were rentals. Helm played 11 more games then retired. Bura got expansion teamed. Kuemper took a pay day. Cogs was on his last legs. JMFJ, EJ, too. Don't act like that team was primed to win again. We absolutely were not.

On top of that we've had the nuke shit. Landy uncertainty. And one of the worst injury numbers in the league. Some of you tell yourselves that CMac f***ed it all up, but it was destined to be f***ed up. We went all in hard, f*** the future, balls on the table style to win that cup. And it worked. Since we have dealt with the fallout.

This is categorically false. I honestly believe the Avs were just as capable of losing 3-1 yesterday as they were today.

You have a completely logical take on waiting until the deadline though. There is never a single trade involving Mikko that we would win. He was always going to be the best player in the deal. The key is what else CMac can do the rest of this year and in future years with the cap space he would have been spending on Mikko. I have a hard time seeing Necas making as much as Mikko on his next deal regardless of how well he performs here. So there should be some continued savings moving forward even after he signs his new deal.

I have no doubt this team is going to be looking different come playoffs. I just have no idea how different because we have a cripple learning to walk again and a drug addict that should be making up a large part of our top six and limited cap space to activate everyone let alone take on salary at the deadline.

Minor correction to your post: it was Donskoi who got expansion draft claimed, not Burakovsky. Burakovsky and Grubauer went to Seattle as UFA's. Graves got traded due to the expansion draft too.

To your larger point, it's also relevant that CMac played a critical role in assembling the very team he inherited, so it's a bit disingenuous to claim that he simply got lucky to inherit a cup winning roster.

As you pointed out that roster also lost some key pieces, most notably the 2C and both goalies (Francouz due to persistent injuries).

Losing Kadri was tough, but that hinged on EJ's willingness to waive his NMC. Maybe CMac could have been more ruthless with him, but it's understandable that he wasn't given EJ's seniority at the club.

I find the best time to make real decisions on how I feel is at the end of the playoffs each year.

What does the team look like, and how does the end result taste/leave you feeling. I can really never seem to answer all of the questions until then.

Was Mitts really a bad trade? It's not looking good now, but it had been previously. If he punts Mitts, how does he recover? He recovered pretty well after Ryjo, but now the same good move looks like shit lol.

He did the right thing choosing to restructure, and get better goaltending though. I fully believe in that move. This team wasn't doing Jack shit built like Pamela Anderson up front.

First year in hindsight was inexcusably bad. And in a title defense year no less.

Unfortunately even the moves I liked haven’t panned out for the most part. The majority of his gambles have blown up in his face.

What I dislike most about his tenure thus far is how reactionary it’s been. He had to scramble like hell to fix the goaltending, but it’s something he knew damn well long before this season it wasn’t good enough. Same with the 2C position.

In the end I think he’ll be fired after this year and his tenure will be viewed as a failure. He was put in a somewhat tough spot as far as the cap goes but I also think he was way too slow to address obvious issues.

I hope the coaching staff gets shitcanned first. I think some of these acquisitions not working out falls (alot) more on Bednar than CMac. A couple of Bednars pressers of late have been especially concerning. And there's the total refusal not to overplay the stars, to boot.

I think he's been dealt a tough hand too with the Nuke and Landy situation. Those made some planning almost impossible. You can never really plan anything longer term when you dont know what's happening with those two. Rehab, not rehab, hurt not hurt.

That's why I am saying we need to come to conclusion with those two. They have hurt us (as much as I love Landy as the captain), but these situations have been going for way too long. Both super important players too. IT SUCKS.

It's saddening. I just don't believe he is this bad. Some injury, mental issues. Something is off for sure. We need to give him a chance for another season I think. Selling him low would be a mistake I think.

This is why I am not 100% they're really looking at 2C. Totally believe they're looking at a bigger move on D though.

After we lost Rantanen we should look for goal scoring. We def. Need more scoring.

Probably should give a couple weeks and see how Necas does. He’s firing the shit out of the puck today and if he can score goals and we get Nuke back we should have plenty of firepower.

Defense is the biggest issue IMO. Manson needs to be on the 3rd pairing and we need to keep the current depth guys out of the lineup unless due to injury.
