Value of: Chris Kreider

I'd be very skeptical of Kreider based on his age and playing style. I'd want at least the 2025 2nd. Wouldn't want Pens doing that unless Rags are already conveying 2025 1st. I would be surprised if Drury can't trade him for at least a mid round pick. He'll just give him the Trouba treatment if necessary to get him to waive for a team.

There has been A LOT of talk about him and Toronto.

To the point where I'm starting to think It's a legitimate possibly and I don't know how I feel about it.

I like the 22 goals,

I like the size Knies Krider and McMann would give the Leafs a very big left side.

But he's older and had a very poor season overall, although I know there are circumstances that may have caused that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he battle Vertigo last year?

I guess it depends on the price, are the NYR taking back money?, are they retaining?

All these things matter.

Kreider had a pretty terrible season in 24-25, but the previous three seasons (21-22 to 23-24) he had 2 seasons with 75+ points. 35+ goals in each of those 3 seasons. I imagine teams are going to be considering those seasons just as much as his most recent.

My guess is the Rangers would be looking for a late 1st with salary retention from a contender that's looking to upgrade their net-front game on PP1.

I’d agree that’s the ask.

I’d suspect they’ll have to move off the ask if they want to move him in the summer.

The number of contenders with a first to spend, a gaping need for what Kreider might bring and cap space to gamble with is kinda small to begin with.

If I’m one of those GMs, I let the season play out a bit before I decide to roll the dice. I’m not looking for him as a key piece, he’s a finishing stroke. I’m waiting until the deadline to see if he reclaims his game at all, and to see if I really need him.

He's a fascinating one.

I think teams have every right to be hesitant to give up value for Kreider with two years left. On the flip side, his tools and pedigree would be interesting to many teams and he is more affordable than the UFA options out there.

I think Drury can get value but it will require a bit of a game of chicken with the rest of league. How patient can he be?

A lot of risk/reward here for all parties imo.

The thing about Kreider is that his skill set doesn't match his obvious strengths. He has great speed. He does his best work at the net front. Corey Perry is still at it. You can't tell me he cannot help someone as a net front PP guy regardless of his age. I think one of the primary reasons the Rangers need to move him is to get younger guys PP time and he's the only one who can really be moved.

age 34 , 17 ES points last year, hard decline 2 more years at 6.5M, and 15 team NTC, Without retention you are looking at Future considerations. Not sure he moves without retention.

Also, meant to mention it in my previous post but Kreider is a big part of the Rangers PK ranking 3rd over the last 4 years, and he’s 5th in SH points (1st in goals) over the same time period

Kreider seems like a fit with Carolina to me. He is a strong playoff performer and I could see Carolina acquiring him like they traded for Burns a few years ago.
