Speculation: Chris Johnston "An atom bomb could drop"

Bennett goal last night was insane, what a shift. Lethal hit, followed by another hit, followed by a sick breakaway move. I knew it was possible for a big-name player to elevate his game in the playoffs, I just knew it. I'd like to see him try a twirl-around one-touch pass behind the back to nowhere though, he's not exciting like our guys are.
And Perry scored yet another big playoff goal when the game was still close, I hear he wanted to play in Toronto way back when, I wonder what happened to that.

The only chance we have is to stay competitive and start flexing the economic muscle when the cap starts exploding.
Yeah that's an interesting thing to keep in mind, but where does that cap need to get to before we have that competitive security? Gotta be a pretty big explosion.

If we do get there though, perhaps going all in isn't quite so risky, as we would eventually get a floor above bottoming out and full rebuilding.

Yet they still have Auston Matthews, guaranteed, for 3 years.

You really aren't following along here, are you?
If he goes on LTIR tomorrow and never plays another games, do we have him? Technically, yes, but not in any practical sense.

If he asks for a trade tomorriw and we comply, do we have him?

It's suppose to rise to 113.5m in 2027-2028. I believe Pelley was on a podcast and said some teams might not spend all the way up to the upper cap limit.

A decent number probably won't. The poorer teams have been the biggest advocates.lf constraint cap growth. I don't anticipate them all to suddenly pull a 180 and start spending away

He only said that an atom bomb could drop, not that it will. Same as the real world. In either case people can hide under their desks for safety.

And yet like Fraser’s non-call, I can’t help but wonder what if? had Bennett been appropriately disciplined for knocking our starting goalie out.

The way Ottawa’s new cheapskate owner said he won’t be spending to the cap is some interesting foreshadowing of where teams may diverge on the big spending plan.

Yeah teams will start falling off.

It really comes down to if you think the current program has no shot to win it - even burning through our assets to get it done. In that case you slow down, load up, and time the next attack for when the capitalistic environment arrives. You might have to move our top talent though (unlikely) to really make it work.

Otherwise the cap projections offer downside protection for going all in with the hand we have, knowing there could be a safety net at the end to avoid the worst - spend our way out of an ugly rebuild.

Of course Matty has to be a chaotic mystery, so I'm not sure what to make of it all..

Every player can get injured - it's a non-factor.

And they are under no obligation to trade him, even if he requests one.

They have Auston Matthews, guaranteed, for 3 years here if they want him. My original point stands.

So if he can't play (injury) or won't play (demands trade), it doesn't matter because they still 'have' him?

Bizarre take.

I've seen plenty of headlines like this one...

MASSIVE Leafs Signing IMMINENT… Report Reveals HUGE Update | Toronto Maple Leafs News

and... crickets....
every video those two clowns who call themselves Leaf Digest put out has a click bait title that is total BS, they're just a couple of punks trying to get their channel enough clicks to pay for a trip to Wendy's, pathetic.............

He doesn't want a trade lol - what kind of stupid hypotheticals are we trying to get into here?

He's under contract for another 3 years. It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that. Even if he wants a trade, he's under obligation to see out his deal.
