Speculation: Chris Johnston "An atom bomb could drop"

It's not happening.

They're going to wait for the embarassment to die down and then make minimal roster changes like the corporate f***s they are.

I don't want to be right. But I have a bad feeling about this. Maybe Edmonton winning the Cup would increase the organization humiliation? Not sure.
Ya I’m slowly resigning my self that they will give Marner some stupid amount and we will run it back for 8 more freaking years of these losers

If they keep them all I'm not watching until they rebuild again and that's a promise. I'm just not strong enough to waste my time on this exact same core group anymore. I'm too old to spend so much time making myself miserable on purpose. I'm very glad Shanahan is gone but that's not enough by itself.

If they make some real change on the ice then I'll be very interested to see how it goes. No changes, well, I already know how that story ends.

I would like to say screw it but I know I will get sucked in again. I will start the season hoping things will be different but all the while knowing it will be the same crap over agent with the same heartless posers

I won't. I just started a new job and need some new certifications, and my kid needs some new therapy. I need every bit of free time I can get.

You won’t be alone. Maybe a bunch of us can start our own support group:
Leafs Anonymous Frustrated Fans or Laff for short. See you at the next rebuild.

I don’t think Bubbles intends on running it back once again, or maybe I’m becoming a optimist………

When was the last time before Ovechkin the Capitals won a cup?

He not only broke the goals record but won them a cup for the first time in team history. Can you imagine Matthews doing either of those two things. Because I can't.

At the end of the day Ovechkin is retiring a champion and one of the greatest players of all time and that's indisputable.
It would be impossible for him to win the Cup for the first time for the Leafs. They have won it 13 times just not since 1967

They changed the core around Ovechkin till they won. This is comparing one player to a group of 5. Not the same comparison.

?

Backstrom. Ovy. Carlson. Wilson.
Marner. Matthews. Nylander. Rielly.

Toronto has completely changed its supporting cast around those 4 players multiple times.

It’s obvious now that Matthews, Nylander, Rielly have to be the supporting cast to a core.

Hey I hope all goes well for you and your family
Yeah to be honest pretty soon I'll probably take a few months of cutting out all distractions, including this place amd hockey in general, and get some stuff in order. I'm just a bit backed up at the moment, you know? Nothing we can't handle but just burned out. Thanks for the support.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

Disagree, Matthews is fine. He played great defensively and was great on the draws, obviously his offence sucked this post-season but it's been that way all season due to injury. It's not like he had a phenomenal regular season and a dud in the playoffs.

If you look at Florda, Barkov and Tkachuk haven't played well at all. In my honest opinion, Matthews and Marner out played them. We lost to their 3rd line and NZ defence, Matthews completely shut down the Barkov line.

Build around Matthews, Nylander is one of the leagues best goal scorers. They can be 2 of the main pieces.

I think we move off of Rielly if possible and Marner of course.

Not exactly... Dubas made the 2nd round once in his tenure and that roster was ousted in 5 games by Fla.

Treliving made the 2nd round his 2nd season and his team was ousted by Fla in 7 games.

Also, Dubas had a boatload of assets to play with, while Treliving didnt thanks to Dubas.

Finally, it was Dubas who signed Marner to his ridiculous contract that included a NMC in the final year.

We could go on amd on..but Dubas made a huge mess that sevsrely limited Trees hand.
I felt a lot better with how the team currently was compared to how they were in 2021. Team took strides on playing the proper winning way.. not all about puck possession, strong defensively, box out and let shots from the boards, harder to play against.. etc.

Ask me how I feel July 7th after the FA dust has settled.

Semin, Green and Varlamov were part of Caps first core

They move on from those 3 and added in Carlson, Holtby and Kuznetsov.

They also added in Oshie who was a fringe core player comparable to knies, with better playoff production.

There teams from 2015 to 2018 were very deep.

OV
Backstrom
Kuznetsov
 Oshie
Wilson
Williams --> he had left in 2018 cup year but was there the years before that
Burakovsky
Vrana

Carlson
Niskinen
Orlov
Orpik

Holtby

They had a lot better depth around their team and were able to continously draft and add skilled players to compliment the group until they finally won in 2018

I will definitely watch.

Toronto has completely changed its supporting cast around those 4 players multiple times.

Washington's original core was Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin, and Green.

The Capitals didn't just tinker around the edges. They changed half the core. The only constant throughout this decade of failure for the Leafs has been the core five of MNMT+R.

No amount of tinkering will turn those five featherweights into championship material.

Who was the GM in Calgary who signed Tanev and let Brodie walk?

Who was the same GM who nearly landed Kadri for Brodie..but Kadri nixed it?

Treviling made some damn good moved in Calgary.

Exactly, he was a very good GM, he got to the 2nd round and lost there, it is a big accomplishment.

D.Hamilton for 15th overall, 45th overall, 52nd overall

Then later traded Hamilton, Ferlund, Adam Fox to Carolina for Hanifin and Lindholm.

He signed Tanev and Markstrom

I'm not sure the Markstrom deal is a win.

He also signed Huberdeau.

He wouldve fleeced Dubas on Kadri, for Brodie and Jankowski

Marner for Rantanen wouldve been a steal

He was very good at trading, look at the haul he got for Tkachuk, Florida got robbed, haven't been following hockey, but assuming Calgary is doing great and Florida is doing bad.

"Strong defensively"

5th worst GA/GP in the playoffs...

Narratives can go a long way.
