I think Mitch will get north of $15 million per.
I do subscribe to the idea that a lot of this Marner nonsense is Darren Ferris posturing and the chances of him leaving are lower than you’d think.
For example. Let’s think about the “Marner is fed up” angle. Who is he fed up with? The Leafs organization Schedule B Lou is gone. Bad Man Babcock is gone. He loves his teammates in the room. He hates the fans? Maybe. But they treat them like gods. The media? He’s going to leave because of Steve Simmons?
I think if he didn’t have such an outsized chip on his shoulders for no reason he would realize he doesn’t have that much of an issue in Toronto. I think Toronto fans have a bigger gripe with him and it’s more compelling to move on from him.
No freaking way.I think Mitch will get north of $15 million per.
Yes exactly. Now with a baby, moving is very difficult and being away from friends and family isn’t ideal. I think both sides are playing the we are happy moving on card but come June 29th I suspect both will see it’s best to work out a reasonable deal.
shanahan is gone who basically does nothing i don;t see an atomic bomb yet
But they will have vastly different definitions of what 'reasonable' means.
I could be crazy, but a 28-year-old 100-point star player who plays in all situations, available for nothing but cap space, in a moment when the cap is jumping and in a weak FA class. It's not hard to see a bidding war emerging. And we know Mitch won't sign for anything less than the absolute most he can get. Seems like a perfect storm for him to get really stupid money. No freaking way.
I completely agree. These bidding wars happen every summer in which we just shake our head at the overpayments, which then become the new norm once the dust settles. This will be especially so with a rising cap.I could be crazy, but a 28-year-old 100-point star player who plays in all situations, available for nothing but cap space, in a moment when the cap is jumping and in a weak FA class. Whoever gives him that, that GM should be fired on the spot. LolI think Mitch will get north of $15 million per.
You want a 2nd line of Willy Nelson?Hoping someone like Nelson is willing.
Domi could work there.
What is the Ontario and Alberta provincial income tax rateI completely agree. These bidding wars happen every summer in which we just shake our head at the overpayments, which then become the new norm once the dust settles. This will be especially so with a rising cap.
There are 6 teams that operate in states that have no state income tax: Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Seattle Kraken.
If he signs with any of those teams, my guess is he goes for $12M x 7 like Rantanen or maybe $12.5M x 7.
If it's any other team like Chicago, Detroit, Utah, my guess is that he goes for $14.5M-$15M lol. People will think it's insane (which it is), until Kaprizov blows that out of the water and signs for $16M per year next summer.
For what it's worth, with the taxes, COL, etc. of Toronto, all things considered, $13.5M USD (which is what was apparently offered) equates to $7.15M USD Net. Las Vegas is 5% cheaper than the Toronto in terms of COL (source: numbeo.com) and has state free income tax and only federal tax at 37%, which would leave him with $8.505M.
So if you factor in taxes and purchasing power parity, if you wanted to calibrate a like-for-like offer, a $13.5M USD offer from Toronto would be matched by Vegas at $10.78M USD per year.
Happy to share other numbers if anyone is interested, but the above shows the disparities between cities/teams. Given that Marner is as money hungry as he has shown him to be, if he's getting $11M from Vegas, the conversation for Toronto would start at $14M USD.His agent likely isn't stupid and has already benchmarked all of these figures
Based on his profile pic, Nineteen67 should be on board. You want a 2nd line of Willy Nelson?

yep, I break it down here: Player Discussion - Mitch Marner Part InfinityWhat is the Ontario and Alberta provincial income tax rate
ETA - I looked it up on rev Canada
The average state income tax is about 5%
They changed the core around Ovechkin till they won. This is comparing one player to a group of 5. Not the same comparison.

Name me 5 teams in league with 3 prime time scorers who will pot 40+ goals per year? I include Knies as he is very likely to join da club in 2025. If you discount Knies name me 5 clubs with 2 40+ goal scorers on their team? Da vast majority of teams do it with depth scoring which i my plan.where da offense comin from
