Speculation: Chris Johnston "An atom bomb could drop"

Lindholm at 8mil even after the underperformance doesn't look that bad after how the cap and FA pool is apparently gonna look.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bennett got 10.5 on the open market. He's probably going back to Florida at 9mil tho.

What could we realistically even get for Matthews? Pettersson? Byfield+? Beniers+? Most suggestions I am reading here are just not gonna happen. We would lose this trade 100 out of 100 times, the idea is to find the trade that sets you back the least.

AM to NJ for the two Hughes plus picks
Reilly and Kampf to Nucks for the other Hughes.

Then sign Bennett, Marchand, and Brown
Ive been wanting this for awhile.

Then we can try and wait out for the third hughes brother.

This would be ideal.

Also trade willy for quinn. pipe dream but you build around the three hughes, and knies. Baller f***cing team.

I love the idea of Bennett. And he's the kind of player you win with, but man. 9 million for a guy whose been over 50 points once? Never hit 30 goals.

That's just too steep for me. He'll get 8+ if the talking heads are correct.

It's hard because he's a winner and has that raise your game ability come playoff time.
lets be honest. Bennet is going to be neutered as a leaf with DOPS finally giving him all the sussys he f***ing deserves all in one season for us

Except it would never happen. The Hughes brothers have so much more value and potential than any of our stars that NJ and Vancouver hangs up the phone as soon as they are mentioned.

NJ yes vanc nah because quinn is GONEZO as soon as he can link up with his bros with the clown show going on in vanc.

You think mitch is bad? check out petey

I don't think I'd be too sad about selling high on Matthews/Willy and restocking the cupboard.

I still think there's a scenario where Matthews/Willy/Knies is enough to build around and be dangerous, but I'd also be okay with just blowing it up so we don't have to go through this pain anymore.

The regular season isn't even fun to watch at this point, we're all just waiting to see if they can avoid collapsing in the playoffs. If they reset, the team will be worse in the short term, but as a fan at least I'll be interested in the regular season again, and go into the playoffs whenever they make them without a sense of dread over an impending collapse.

Tre deserves more time without Shanny influencing things. If they fire Berube, who is a better option? The best one now works for Anaheim.
I said all along Shanny was the problem more than Dubas. Don't get me wrong I was no fan of Dubas but I firmly believe Dubas had to get Shannys approval on everything he did.

Let Marner walk. Bring back Tavares short term for hopefully a good discount. Go long term with Knies. Don't need to be painted into a corner having to pay him 12 million 3 years from now after a bridge. Get it done 8x8 now if you can. See if you can get a reasonably good deal in the high end FA market with someone like Ehlers or Boeser, if not go short term and hope McDavid is an option next offseason. If that fails we trade off Matthews summer of 27 and go full rebuild when we finally have our 1st rounders again.

Not a fan of moving on from Rielly yet. I get that he didn't play all that well this past year and could be in a decline but has been one of the few guys who steps up in the playoffs with production. He's the only real offense first guy we have on a backend that IMO struggled to consistently move the puck out of the D zone with possession in the Florida series, and often failed to exit the zone altogether. Tanev, McCabe, Carlo, OEL just isn't enough puck moving capability from the backend and it's going to lead to continued problems with controlled breakouts under pressure. I fail to see how you're going to do much better for the 7.5 million to replace him in a FA world with a huge cap jump.

Most importantly don't trade another 1st rounder again unless you're getting a huge upgrade. They McCabe and Carlo trades were reasonable because we got a couple longer term pieces we needed but we've wasted a ton of 1sts on some really useless assets over the years. Dallas didn't get where they are by trading all their picks. Instead they used mid/late 1st rounders on Johnston, Harley, Bourque and Bichsel while making some solid 2nd round picks in Hintz and Stankoven. It allowed them to continue to compete while their expensive core of Benn and Seguin aged and now that Benn's expiring they were able to finally move a couple picks and Stankoven for a legit star in Rantanen and extend him. Sure would be nice to have done it their way.
I love Harley......not literally lol After reading his story about being born in Syracuse NY and growing up there, with his siblings and Canadian parents (his dad is a doctor) but brought up as a CANADIAN and choosing to play for Canada instead of the US I thought wow.
In an interview with him and Oettinger ,after a game, of course Oettinger had to make a sarcastic comment about Harley not choosing to play for the US. typical American

Did I say anything about tanking? I never said trade matthews and Nylander for picks and prospects.
I doubt they get rid of both. Losing Marner and then trading Mathews significantly changes things. Willy needs to play with a Knies and another grit guy and like it or not his contract is good.

literally washington THIS YEAR what are we talking about
Washington has been drafting incredibly for half a decade (all of 2020s)

Connor McMeichel
Protas

2 really big time players for them both home grown

They paid a 1st for Sandin who developed into a top 4 d-man this year

They traded a cap dump goalie for a cap dump C which worked well for them

They traded a top 4 defensive D for a top pairing offensive physical D who wanted out of Ottawa

It's not replicable

If the decision is between Ehlers and Boeser... I am 100 times out of 100 going for Ehlers. Passion..desire. Boeser is pretty much a carbon copy of what we already have. He needs to be in a quiet market and a secondary piece.
Ehlers has a massive drop off in points in the playoffs but I distinctly remember boeser scoring big playoff goals

They can still be competitive with moving the 2 bubbleheads of M&M. A team with Knies and Nylander as the top players will still be competitive.
lmao competitive for a playoff spot or competitive for a top 5 pick... look at the rest of the division before making asinine assessments

They can be competitive for a wild card spot. I guess you're happy making the playoffs and Matthews and company being no shows when the pressure is on.
that team would be competitive with San Jose for the first overall pick. I'm more than happy making the playoffs every year and giving yourself a punchers chance unless of course you think 1Cs grow on trees?
