CHL to NCAA Commits

I suspect moving forward we will see more and more of the lower-level pro players come out of NCAA and, conversely, fewer guys coming from U Sports. I think it was you who had mentioned that it seemed not as many U Sports players as usual signed ECHL deals after the season ended compared to previous years.

I did write that, but looking at NCAA signings, they're either guys that were drafted and have now signed or Free Agents who sign either an AHL or NHL deal. Very few NCAA guys going to the Coast, although there is one guy from Lake Superior State who went to the Greensboro Gargoyles. There's still a smattering of CHL guys gone ECHL.

I should have qualified my comment by saying I've only looked at the past week or so on Elite Prospects. Lazy of me.

Are the USports to ECHL numbers down this spring? In the CW it looks like normal.

I know from going through rosters to build a list of recruits , tons of guys aren’t showing up on the “transfer” pages, so I had to go through each 2026-2027 USports roster , same might be happening with pro guys

Elite Prospects is my go to site. Looks to be around 14 CIS guys to Minor Pro since mid March.

That’s where I meant . Transactions weren’t showing up for recruits .
Taeo Artichuk for example doesnt show up as a transaction on elite prospects but he’s on UNB’s 26-27 roster page on EP. Some pro movement could be getting lost in the same way

I've seen things like that on the site. I generally just look at transactions, for CIS. If someone show up, I'll post it. I don't look at team rosters.

Not enough ice time because the guys they're playing with in NCAA are as good or better than them. As you move up the ladder, the players around you get better.

Maryville has an ACHA team which they will keep and "will field a D1 transition/hybrid team for the 26-27 season playing roughly 20 NCAA D1 games. Additional details regarding conference affiliation, schedule, recruiting, and facility enhancements will be announced in the coming months."

The NCAA Division I Cabinet on Tuesday unanimously approved a sweeping overhaul of eligibility rules that would allow student-athletes up to five years of competition eligibility, provided they enroll in college no later than the academic year following their 19th birthday.

For hockey players, the proposal could significantly affect junior hockey pathways.

The proposal, which awaits final approval, would replace the NCAA's longstanding model of four seasons of competition within a five-year window. It also would eliminate redshirt rules, sport-specific eligibility regulations and most eligibility waivers in favor of a simplified age-based system.

The "final" vote is Thursday, I think. It's a done deal.

On a similar note, NHL teams now have 4 years to sign a drafted player from CHL or NCAA. Previously it was 2 years for CHL and 3 years for NCAA.
