This is a look at players who have committed to an NCAA school since the new ruling in early November. As the CHL season goes on, I would expect to see more added. A lot of these players would have gone to the CIS.
Few of these schools are "hockey hotbeds"

Edit: This is a new list as 5 players were BCHL transfers. When I made this I just looked at the commit date. Thanks to Miami Hockey for keeping me honest.

Mea Culpa...

How many of these players were Jr A until the NCAA change?

2nd guy going to a "big" school.
Storied men's DI hockey program, yes, but just in Season 2 of a major Wisconsin rebuild under HC Mike Hastings after the 7-year Tony Granato experiment failed. So the Badgers are blessed to have a new wider talent pool to recruit from while still carrying the aura of "big"-ness.

I just noticed they're not in top 20.

Good thought, but most of the commits have been "average" players who aren't going to the NHL.

If Martone goes to NCAA for a year or 2, I can see that approach.
I would find moving to NCAA very appealing for that draft +1 year if i were drafted in the first few rounds.
A new experience, time to work on bulking up and skill development.etc.
Might make for a better player long term?

I think it would depend on what his NHL team wants him to do.

I heard the U of Michigan coach say basically the same thing as you Chiko99 in a recent podcast. I believe he said they have put 15-17 players into NHL games in the last 3 years. Another interesting comment was " why would a 19 or 20 year old CHL player want to stay and beat up on a 16 year old".
