Sergachev was terrible at 5 vs 5 and he turned out pretty good.
Thats true, and he still has monumental brain lapses on defense sometimes. Yet he plays 20+ minutes a game.
But he will fight for the puck, block any shots that come his way and his ability to transition quickly helps him so much to get out of trouble.
Mailloux is not perfect, and he doesn’t have to be. Like Hutson and Barron, his ability to get the puck out of the zone quickly will determine where he will be in the top 6.
He has the size, the reach and the physical game that those don’t have.
Worst part is the league is filled with defensemen that are less than consistent on the defensive side. With his tools, the right partner and a transition focused style of play there’s no doubt he’ll play in the league.
