Lots of them. Especially big Cs like a Michael Rasmussen.
Not only do they over-dominate their D+1 year in the CHL, many times they had to burn their 19yr old year as well, playing limited minutes in the NHL, when they needed to be playing in the AHL….. but weren’t allowed to.
He’s a perfect example of a player who had nowhere to further develop for 2 years after being drafted. It’s why many times, we don’t see the NHL careers of big Cs blossom, until they’re 26-27 years old.
Those are the players who will be helped most by the new system. The Dach and Rasmussen’s of the world. Who in today’s system would go to the NCAA as 18 yr olds. Not be forced into the NHL too early, or burning years over-dominating in the CHL.
