It's funny to think that people actually think NIL is going to matter in the realm of D1 hockey when the vast majority of recruits are foreign nationals, and therefore cannot profit off of anything, or even really hold summer jobs, and the amount of actual markets that offer enough money to make NIL worthwhile in the context of D1 hockey is precious few.
Lots of moving parts right now. The House Settlement allows for direct payments to players but not to foreign nationals so that is causing a lot of headaches, especially in the basketball world
Didn't we conclude the NCAA had found a way around that? At least for Canadians.
The work around is by paying them while in their home countries where they may endorse a product or even send out a tweet. Rumor has it that many European basketball players receive six figures for just announcing their commitment on social media platforms. Of course payments such as these will no longer be allowed under the House Settlement so it will be very interesting to see how foreign nationals will be able to get a piece of the revenue sharing pie.
