CHL Import DRAFT 2025 Players to Watch

That league has a pretty wide age range, started not long before his 5th birthday and still going.

I saw someone mention that the CHL import draft will go a year younger as far as players being available (so 2009s would be an option).
I'm not convinced this is true.........anyone on here heard anything about that?

It would make sense with the increase to 3 imports and would help with the "import cycle" for each team; so teams could more easily avoid getting stuck with no returning imports and have to draft three in the same year.

It would be interesting to see imports come over in their sixteen year old season. A euro that maybe thinking about the USHL route may now think oh I can play earlier in the CHL. I'm assuming the USHL rules state that only 17 yr old and older euro's may play in the league.

Actually other way around. USHL let's 16 year old Euro's play in their league. They had 14 2008 born Euros play in the league last season. I'd guess that a few of those players will be picked in the upcoming import draft along with a few 07's out of the USHL.

A lot of those Euros play there just to get accustomed to the N/A game then will go CHL because that’s where they wanted to be in the first place.

I didn't see it mentioned specifically in the article, but just thought to myself, with picks now being tradable, are they tradable between leagues or just inter-league? I would assume just inter-league, but who knows?

I don't see how they could be traded between leagues unless there is cash consideration and I doubt that will be the case.

There's some interesting questions with the trading...

1) I assume with only 3 rounds that 1st round import picks can be traded but I wonder if that won't be the case in leagues that don't allow 1st round picks to be traded.

2) Can you end up with more than 3 picks to draft a 4th player in case one doesn't show up.

3) Will we see these becoming big parts of trades? I wouldn't think so unless it's more than a year out...any team loading up will have a really late import pick in that next year.

Given his performance at the U18 tournament and his stats in his home league, I would think Germany's Elias Schneider would be someone to consider. Good size, responsible defensively and has a scoring touch.
