That's what those people are comparing highly trained athletes to when they use verbiage like "kids" or "children". It's ignorant at best, and disingenuous at worst. Actually someone is going to take the pedantic route in reply so that one is pretty bad too.

I get what they are trying to do but agree it might not be the best long term. They’re used to being the big fish. They don’t want to be the usual bottom feeder expansion team. They think they can Vegas this. Who knows. Maybe they do get by on prestige in regards to recruiting.

Think they're in for a rude awakening as they're used to only recruiting but even with the change in the chl you build through the draft. They've already given away most of their high picks
 
Has there been any substantive news on NHL draft rights issue?

For instance, Cayden Lindstrom's rights are supposed to expire June 1, 2026 (2-year expiry since drafted as CHL player). Same for Ryder Ritchie, Henry Mews, Luke Misa, Tomas Mrsic, etc. Normally, most NCAA draftees have four-year rights window.

Will be interesting if Penn St doesn’t destroy these high end kids they’re getting, as it’s been a graveyard for development. Not one single impact NHL player in its time as a D1 program. Nothing but hype and money makes this place attractive to young, impressionable players.

No new news. The prevailing thought is that the rights holding period will extend to 4 years removed from draft year for anyone who goes to the NCAA. Thus Lindstrom and the others in the 2024 Draft that go NCAA from the CHL would have their rights held until August 15 2028 at minimum

The current CBA is up in September right? So they'll probably be no changes until then and then it'll be seen if it's backdated to already drafted players.

I could see it being just a blanket four years for players out of NA. Maybe split the difference and make it three?
 
Which are the legit accounts to take notice of when it comes to CHL player commitments and start dates? Elite Prospects does have commitments but I know that they will often times just put the first year a player is eligible as their first year when that is not always the case.

I partially ask right now because Elite Prospects list Maine as having 3 goalies, 12 defenceman and 20 forwards on the team next year and only on those is a returner, which can't possibly be the case.

Double post because I forgot to quote, this something CHL teams are going to have to keep in mind now.

The old CHL cycle system of "selling off top returners the next year after making a run to get picks back" might not be as tenable now.

I don't think the NCAA has any reason to and I don't think the CHL would want to. I also don't think there is an easy avenue to do it anyways because they aren't under the same governing bodies.

Maybe we'll get some unofficial "partnerships" between NCAA schools and CHL teams about player placement, but that's probably the extent.

Any word on Phillips going in to minny next year ? grimes is doing another year in USHL before heading to minny . Assume mooney heading to minny since rumor they paid him nice bonus $ . 75% of NTDP team should be playing extra year of juniors - especially Raw Amico who missed a year

Agreed, one of the weaker NTDP teams in recent memory. Would benefit a lot of these kids development if they spent a year in the USHL or CHL before college. It worked wonders for Epperson imo, had a great year with Saginaw and now going to Denver a much more prepared and stronger player.

I noticed on his EP page they have top WHL 08' Cooper Williams going to North Dakota in 27-28. That'd be his d+2, not sure where they got that except he's already said he's going back to Sask. for his draft year.

It seems pretty clear that the timeline on these CHL>>>NCAA guys is going vary wildly, and not just on pure talent alone.
If there's any good news for the CHL it seems most of the top guys are staying for their draft year, and some are coming for their draft year that'd would've went JrA/USHL otherwise.

Most Canadian kids draft year is their 17 year old season, and they'd have to accelerate to go to the NCAA for their DY. The late birthdays whose DY is their 18 year old season will have the ability to make the Fantilli/Johnson move & play in the NCAA in their DY, which is what McKenna will be doing.

There’s really no one great source for start dates. The Heisenberg list is probably the best but he gets stuff wrong all the time too. Basically only the coaching staffs know when they’re planning on bringing kids in and guessing can be tough.

Elite prospects is pretty bad when it comes to start dates. Like you said they just list everyone and are inconsistent about including returners (some schools right now have a few listed, some have none at all).
