Might this get the NHL to up the draft age to 20?it was widely reported last night that NCAA
will vote to allow CHL players eligibility to play college . this is biggest news in college hockey recruiting , junior leagues , players choices that ever happened - it could completely change landscape . my view is ushl will be hurt the most - i think all the top kids will head to CHL which would water down ushl - then everybody gets weaker / bchl / nahl ect . the other thing will be the college landscape - now all high end kids in nhl camp so they go back to junior team or head to michigan or BC play older kids for 2 years , also does college just now recruit lot of 19-20 year CHL kids - to me this hurts american hockey kids by far the most !
Nope, the NHLPA doesn't want precedent to be reversed to the pre-1979 rules. Not allowing guys into the league until their 20 year old season delays their UFA age (unless that changes). Would be a significant labor/legal battle that the players would make sure that the draft age stays at 18.Might this get the NHL to up the draft age to 20?

I'm a Hitmen fan so obviously I follow their transactions more so than any other WHL and CHL team besides what comes across the timeline, but that's their second 08 American they've signed in the last week after Keaton Jundt who's a UND commit. They also signed an 07 American a couple weeks ago and both their 09 US draft picks earlier this season following the NCAA ruling.
So, early on in this new world of CHL hockey, they appear to be an organization that isn't shying away from this new American pool. Though admittedly, I'm not keeping super up to date on what the other teams are doing and Calgary as a location is definitely an easier situation to sell than other CHL markets.
They also signed 08 Ben MacBeath a couple days earlier who's a Denver commit, but he was a BCHL guy and from Calgary so that's not necessarily as notable as the Americans.
I would bet money against 20- but U19 draft year by calendar year isn't hard to imagine. There's a great opportunity to clean up a lot of the if/than/else and simplify the CBA with respect to player age, right holding windows etc.I wouldn't be so sure.......
I think teams like Calgary/Edmonton (large centers with airports and that) will likely be able to recruit more and likely higher end Americans now vs the small markets. Don't be shocked if they have 6+ in the roster at any given time.I'm a Hitmen fan so obviously I follow their transactions more so than any other WHL and CHL team besides what comes across the timeline, but that's their second 08 American they've signed in the last week after Keaton Jundt who's a UND commit. If the league wanted it and structured the changes appropriately it should be an easy enough sell to the players.
- 4 years rights holding for all players regardless of draft avenue
- Maintain 3 year ELC with potential for U20 slide
- Enable teams to have 1 full season U20 AHLer per year (burns ELC season) and 1 more with an extended pro trial (29 AHL games, NHL games counting against the total) without burning a year
- Set UFA age as of Jan 1
From Player Perspective
Pro's
- No more 4 year ELC for late birthdays
- No more extra RFA year for players born after June 1
- Increased opportunity to earn money and burn ELC years at U20
Cons - one player per year has to wait an extra year to make the show

Haha, don’t be what?I think teams like Calgary/Edmonton (large centers with airports and that) will likely be able to recruit more and likely higher end Americans now vs the small markets. Don't be sucked off they have 6+ in the roster at any given time.
Whoops lol, let's fix that.Haha, don’t be what?
The airport was what I was thinking about, makes it easier for the kids to get there and the family to visit. Plus, those are major metros that people may have heard of over a small town nowhere.
I know they technically don’t play in Vancouver-proper, but you could add the Giants to that list.
Shattuck continues to be a bit of a CHL pipeline program
One of the high profile tenders in the USHL from last year.
Expect more......
I also don't blame Vandenberg for wanting to leave Cedar Rapids. They had the weirdest ass roster in the league full of lower tier junior players that aren't really on the radar. It was weird he even tendered with them in the first placealmost as if the USHL was holding players hostage with high fees to leave during the season...

May this induce a limit on Americsn players? It is after all- in theory- meant to be a developmental league for Canadian talent.I believe that just about every CHL team will feature at least three or four Americans on their roster by the 26-27 season, some more. I can easily see over 200 American born players in the CHL by then.
No....much like with many coaches in the NCAA; CHL owners, GMs and Coaches all want the best possible talent to fill out their rosters.May this induce a limit on Americsn players? It is after all- in theory- meant to be a developmental league for Canadian talent.
And I'm not sure Canadians would be as open to a roster full of non-Canadoans at thr junior level as we are at thr pro level
