Swift Current needs to prepare for the changing landscape, which they already have with signing Brock Burch (2009, Dubuque Iowa native) to the Standard Player Agreement. Get more US kids up to the Dub before they go to the NCAA
That basically every team really. You have to think that there will be an influx of better 16-17 yr olds in the league, with a lot of (not nearly all) looking to go south at 19-20. Just how it is.

Burch is a weird one. He is not ready in the slightest to play major junior.
Most kids that sign aren’t playing right away but can get in camp, get a few games, etc. most kids don’t become full time players until they’re 17. Of course if top players get raided by ncaa then probably more 09s than you’d typically expect next year.

So I've been following these but a bit at an arm's length. But is this the first NHL drafted player that will be in his 19-year old season next year that has committed to the NCAA?

EDIT: nevermind, that would have been Mews
Ryder Ritchie (2024 2nd, Minnesota) could be another. Seems like he might follow McKenna to Michigan if that's the direction that McKenna goes.
