CHL Can Now Play NCAA - Changes Everything

Mentioned last week that there will be more movement from U-Sports to the NCAA, well here it is and all from one program. There is still more to come.

All are former CHL players

Damn, that's a lot to lose. Especially guys that will play 3-4 years for your program. And the Golden Bears is one of the continually best teams in USports.

Things are definitely in flux in USports now.

Aidan De La Gorgendiere has signed a previous ECHL contract. He can go to the NCAA?

the younger commits are really piling in, I doubt they're all going to wait around until they are 20 until they matriculate, will just depend when they are ready

As far as I know younger commits from the Q have confirmed they’ll complete their junior years and plan on joining the NCAA for their CHL overage season so they would be 20 for their first season.

Some but not all........Alexander Taillefer committed to UMass with the specific intention of enrolling for the 27-28 season, meaning he would come in at 19. Now of course much can change between now and then. He could end up being a relatively high draft pick and sign or the Remparts may convince him to stay an extra year but as of now, the plan is to play D-1 hockey by 2027. Kearns, their latest CHL commit will most likely arrive on campus when he's 20.

No, Taillefer has committed to playing in Quebec until the end of the 2027-2028 season. It could change along the way like you said but as of now that's his plan.

I tried looking for a running list by birth year and couldn't find, so this is what I have got. Its not a complete list.

2004: 73
2005: 30
2006: 7
2007: 3

Tried cutting and pasting into 'spoiler' below.

Doesn't include some of the 2025 eligibles that have been rumored (Misa, Martone, Ivankovic, etc)

Source for commitments: College Commitments

EDIT -- A lot missing, will update shortly

EDIT 2 -- I have added a second batch (see batch2). First time, I had screened too narrowly. Here are updated topline figures:

2004: 80
2005: 55
2006: 37
2007: 43
2008: 20

You brought up an American, the comment was about canadian jersey sales which they get a minuscule fraction “””if””” they have their name on it

Zach edey for example (substantially bigger sport)
Was asked about his jersey sales as that’s what he was eligble for. He said it got him a nice meal out

HUGE. Keeping up with the Jonses
Edey was an idiot, he could’ve done well in NIL, he just didn’t know how to navigate things.

Seems like a lot of these players like the idea of playing college.

I wonder when some of this stuff gets announced. After CHL playoffs? Who will be the next shoe to drop? And how many?

After playoffs probably.

Maybe someone who...
(a) is out of playoffs;
(b) is out of Memorial Cup;
(c) is not playing in U18s, and
(d) has been rumored to be making the jump to NCAA

(Misa, Martone, McQueen, Fiddler, Spence, Ivankovic)

It may be easier to guess based on which teams have open spots. Michigan has 4+, BC has 2...

Have to wonder if TSU is going to really get off the ground, anyway good pick up for Denver. Hicks was very very good in the playoffs.....

Denver starting goalie Matt Davis played 2 years in the BCHL before than I think 1 in the USHL is comparison I’m sure Denver see’s Hicks . However , it’s shocking that Hicks who was by far the best goalie in the BCHL before leaving that no real college went after them - that’s just really lazy recruiting and why the majority of college teams stink . Hicks team Brooks produces a ton of high end college players so the argument on the league is ridiculous . Most of the kids who left the BCHL didn’t really struggle in the CHL.

His numbers speak for themself. A bit undersized, but it could have been something as simple as TSU giving him the keys and being the guy right from day 1. There aren't many teams that can guarantee a kid come in and start day 1. The development path has always been a little different for goalies.
