With how freely players will be able to move around with affecting their eligibility, it makes sense to try and grab as many rights to talented players as you can. You can certainly err more aggressive now. Similar, you can bet NCAA teams will be hardcore recruiting players they never would have even thought possible now.

Penn State listed as a team to watch that will be pursuing high end CHLers, per Marek's most recent blog on DailyFaceoff.

Is it better for Misa, maybe get in a game or two and then slid back to Junior or go NCAA, sign at end of year and burn with NHL games? Feels like a no brainer if those are two most likely options.

NCAA > OHL
End of year games > beginning of year games
burn a year > slide a year

I think he should only slide if the team can make pretty strong assurances they foresee him playing the entire year in the NHL.

The denial about how many stars the NCAA is going to get finally starting to go away... lol

Not sure if you are referring to me but I still maintain that the majority of the CHL sign contracts and I do not expect a flood of star CHL players flocking to the NCAA this summer. There will be some, but it will not comprise the majority.

I know of one high profile Q player eligible for the upcoming draft visited B.U. recently. No firm commitment, as with most of them, is awaiting the results of the draft and then make his determination.

My presumption is that a lot of teams would prefer their top prospects going to the NCAA for a year or two instead of spending extra years in junior.

Lindstrom and Mews commitments appear to have shaken the foundations of people that were so boldly proclaiming "CHL will get every good player, even ones that initially wanted to go NCAA will sign their ELCs and only 20 year olds that don't get offered pro hockey contracts will play in the NCAA moving forward"

They just need some clarity this offseason when it comes to rights, so you're not in situations where you draft a Misa, he goes and hides out at Michigan for two years and you lose his rights. I don't think anyone wants that (maybe Leafs and Rangers) so I expect this to be cleared up.

Changes are a coming to the developmental model concerning CHL AHL eligibility, I initially thought not until 26-27 but perhaps as soon as this upcoming season.

You may be right and there will be a flood of 18- and 19-year-old CHL players into the NCAA but I'm not counting on it

Well then that means you'd lose guys early regardless. Like I've said, CHL backers will have to get used to the CHL not being at the top of the development pyramid anymore. Maybe it still will be for the handful of elite forwards, but unlikely you'll see many elite defensemen and goalies bypass the NCAA going forward.

It'll be a 4 year rights holding period for all, that's my guess

I'm pretty sure the CHL realizes this but from their standpoint, they would rather lose players to the AHL than the NCAA due to development money from the NHL.

Curious, exactly how many CHL players do you feel that still have eligibility left will migrate to the NCAA next year.

Don't think NHL teams would too eager to have a bunch of 2nd-3rd round picks in the AHL as teenagers. Probably would only really see players drafted in the 5-20 range make a big migration to the AHL out of the CHL as teenagers. The ones that do make it from the 2nd-3rd rounds are still a ways off from the NHL and a majority of 20 year old AHL players jumping from Junior aren't too good yet, let alone a year or two earlier. NCAA is a pretty perfect intermediary for those types of guys, and then they can jump to the pros when they prove they're ready regardless of some arbitrary clock tied to their birth year.

Michigan has several silent commits from OHLers. The number of younger CHLers who still have junior eligibility who go to the NCAA will be larger than you think.

Except literally no one was doing this all or nothing thing it's more about percentages and most high end younger CHL types will probably stay in the CHL.

Even if the CBA changes I'm not sure this percentage will change much.

A guy like Misa can sign and even play a trial then go to the CHL if not ready, that option doesn't exist for the NCAA.

Or whoever drafts Misa (Boston the most notable possibility) could tell Misa, "We'd prefer you go to the NCAA for a year, then we'll sign you".
