BU had a goalie commit (Yegorov) with a 2nd round pedigree that began their year in the USHL. The guys BU had weren't getting it done, so they called him in mid-season and he took over the crease. That is at least a possibility now.

I do think CHL goalies could benefit the most out of any position from all of this long term. Goalies are more prone to late development and I think you will see a lot of 19/20 year old CHL goalies go NCAA over slogging through the ECHL/low level pro hockey where there are only so many starts available. And if some kid goes at 19 or 20 and has a couple strong years in NCAA all of a sudden at 22 they could have NHL prospects they never would have had before.

Defensemen too. Very very few 20-21 year old defensemen are good enough for the NHL and the ones coming from CHL often take their lumps in the AHL as well.

Yeah, goaltending has the longest development curve and so there's less correlation between draft status and how they end up as pros than any other position. Top 10 Goaltenders in wins by draft round

I think Michigan will get 4-5 chl players for next year but they still won’t make the tournament -

I would expect a ton of Michiganders, Illinoisans, New Yorkers to go to the O. If they're ass and get waived, still NCAA eligible and can go to Junior A/USHL.

The draft this year was interesting. 72 Americans selected. For reference 2024 had 33 taken. Was funny to see GM’s pick guys from the USHL and even the NTDP U17 team to go along with the U16 kids. Teams won’t get everyone but there was a clear indication that they like their odds much more than in the past.

People are also aware of what has happened to Chase Reid. Waterloo in the USHL not giving a f*** about him, so Reid has to start in the NAHL, then he goes to Sault Ste Marie in the O and tears it up with the Greyhounds where they actually give talented young players ice time and opportunities. Of course, they're also well aware that the O (the whole CHL in general) is very cut throat, so you need to be ready to play and play well enough to keep your spot, or else you get waived & spit out like Juan Copeland was.

True. May be harsh but also could be a selling point for some guys. It's very pro like in that way.

I think a lot of Michigan, Pennsylvania, (Western/Upstate) New York kids will make the move to the O, as places like Kitchener, Windsor, London, etc are closer and more appealing than going to Kearney Nebraska, Sioux City Iowa in the USHL. We'll see what happens with Muskegon and Youngstown; if they secede from the USHL and jump to the O as soon as possible, or remain in the USHL.

The OHL from what i’ve seen has more offensive skill than the USHL system . Lot of kids left the USHL and even the BCHL and fit in fine offensively . I also think OHL coaching is probably dramatically better simply because I know USHL well and half the coaches are average to low end . They took Sychora - Whytenbach some of the 2007 from the ushl. My question if they leave ushl after the season to the CHL is their stlll a transfer involved ?thx
