The BCHL put this up on their website late Friday.

They flagged this in a Facebook post, to which they have subsequently limited replies. That is not a thing you do when people react well to a thing.

Saying that less than 4% of the players have left is an interesting framing. That’s a player on average from each team. No, it doesn’t debilitate the league, but it’s a bright red flashing light that tells the players there’s an off-ramp.

They say they’re committed to eliminating player fees next year, which will surely attract some players. I wonder if some of the clubs that don’t draw well will be able to afford that.

The player pool for whom it makes sense to choose the BCHL above other leagues has been impacted and they are eliminating a stream of revenue to find them. Defensive statements (aimed at who exactly?) don’t instill a ton of confidence in potential recruits.

bchl is still lot better league than nahl - chl not calling up any nahl kids lol . bchl to remain relevant just needs to get younger and be a feeder for the CHL — nothing wrong with that because nahl has made itself irrelevant in the USA

NOT irrelevant to the many players who gain scholarships to U.S. colleges. Life ain't all about hockey, despite what hockey parents & agents think.

Some chatter about Penticton (BCHL Flagship franchise) being accepted into the Dub. We'll see.

The NAHL is as relevant as the BCHL currently is to NCAA hockey but yes, most Canadian junior leagues will become feeders to the CHL and to U-Sports while the NAHL most likely will become the dominant feeder to D-III hockey (and still be very relevant btw!).
