Our squad of stick puckers just swept the defending Stanley Cup Champs. They also shut them out. What is life?

Thoughts from the game:

1. Nordstrom's celebration was awesome. You could tell how much that goal meant to him. Versteeg also wanted a goal badly. A lot of scorn on the ice tonight.

2. Speaking of the ice...HOLY ****, that ice was terrible. Worst I've seen. Players were falling everywhere, the puck was like a superball too many times to count. Worked out in the Canes favor because Chicago couldn't get any cohesive movement up the ice.

3. No player needs the ASG break more than Noah Hanifin. His past couple games have been off, and tonight was one of his worst. Peter's had a few conversations with him on the bench.

4. On the opposite spectrum, this was my first live viewing of Slavin. The kid has got it locked down. I don't know what "it" is, but he's got it.

I initially didn't realize it was Pat Foley calling that game, holy **** you'd think there'd be an ounce of objectivity there. Blaming it on their schedule? Saying they're exhausted after 14 games in 23 days? Carolina played 13 in 24. Their schedules are nearly identical in January. And **** JR. I hate my 7 year old self for having him as one of my favorite players, you dumb little ****.

JR as in Roenick? I didn't think he was too bad. I'm sure I didn't catch everything he said but I thought from what I heard he mostly just ignored the canes, didn't say anything negative about them

Honestly I didn't think the Canes were allowed on national TV. I was quite shocked it was on NBCSN.

And from what I heard, they also gushed about the Canes and Bill Peters/RF. Even suggested they should be buyers.

Was thinking the same thing the entire game. Was thinking if we had another game, BP might've made him a healthy scratch. Both he and Pesce looked like they've seen better games, but it's hard to criticize players in a shutout. Neither of them could handle the puck that well. Hanifin, in addition to taking bad penalties, made a few dangerous plays on the blueline.

He does a lot of good things, and doesn't have any bad habits overall, he just needs to polish his game, which will come in time.

Pesce has been battling an injury and Noah is young. Neither is used to this schedule yet. The break will hopefully do them both a world of good.
